Membership
Nowadays one can only become a member of the Royal Family of Elwynn, unless the King provides otherwise, if one is a child or grandchild of a member of the Royal Family aforesaid. Individuals who marry a member of the Royal Family of the Jewel of Many Facets may, upon being joined in holy matrimony or thereafter, also be admitted to the membership of the Royal Family of Elwynn.
The King may, for reasons which to Him seem sufficient, by an Instrument of Membership Termination under His Hand and the Seal of the Elwynnese Union, upon application of the Family Council of the Royal Family of Northshire, terminate any person's membership in the Royal Family of the Lands of Elwyna. This has happened only in the history of the Royal Family when in the year 1645 the membership of Adam Ayreon-Kalirion was terminated in the light of the atrocities and other acts of infamy - including treason, fratricide, regicide, rape, and filicide - he had committed.
Kingly Powers of Protection
The King of Elwynn has the power to, by ordinance, make rules and regulations which have the force of law, with power to attach penalties for their infringement, to protect the Royal Family's ancient rights, privileges, free customs, honour, dignity, peace, order and welfare, to protect its official documents and patrimony as well as the private papers and property of its members, and to protect itself and its members against any person or persons interfering with, molesting, harrassing, threatening or attempting to intimidate them in their pursuit of happiness and liberté de vivre.

By convention is the Family Council presently composed of the five senior adult members of the House of Orchids, except for the King, and presided over by the one of them with the longest service as Governing Steward of Elwynn. The council usually meets in either the Duke Harald Chamber of the Avaldsborg in the Royal City of Avaldsnes or in the Viruja Chamber in Castle Islàn in the Old Harbour of in the Royal City of Hyfrost.
