The Federation of Musica is an association of the Imperial States of Lichbrook and Yardistan and some additional shared territories. The constituent members of the Federation retain all their usual autonomy as Imperial States, but have the additional benefit of cooperating closely and occasionally offering a unified voice on matters of national concern.
The Federation is nominally led by a Dirigent, who leads the Concert - the convening chamber of the Federation - and administers the Musican Capital Territory, which consists of the County of Musica (i.e. the City of Musica and its environs). The counties of Monty Crisco and Kralizec are under the joint protection of the two Imperial States.
History
Discussions for the idea of what was then going to be a Yardistani-Brooshiran union began in July 2012, 4719 ASC. Both duchies were rife with inactivity and following the secession of Sanilla (formerly Solecism) Benkern called for a special session of the Yardistani Diet (legislature) where Brookshirans were welcome to comment. During the course of negotiations, Duchess Anthrazita of Brookshire dissolved the duchy and founded the Duchy of Lichbrook in its place. The negotiated Accord of Musica therefore made refernce to the "lands formerly encompassing the southern half of [...] Brookshire". It established the Federation, the relationship between Yardistan and the territories released from Lichbrook's feudal control being its cornerstone, as well as Federal institutions such as the Dirigentship, the Concert and the Musican Capital Territory. Ari Rahikkala of Caverden was elected first Dirigent, though by November 2012 he had been replaced by Benkern.
With the beginning of January 2013, the Queen of Lichbrook proposed a "new vision" for the Federation: one encompassing Lichbrook. Expanding the idea of the Musican Federation as 'Yardistan-plus', guarding certain Benacian territories, the ambitious project was to see the Federation include two sovereign Imperial States - Yardistan and an expanded United Kingdom of Lichbrook and Modany - who co-administer the shared territories of Monty Crisco, Solecism and Kralizec. The Second Accord of Musica was passed by the Concert and Lichbrook formally joined the Federation, changing its nature considerably and expanding its scope as a force on the Shirerithian internal stage.
A further development in June 2013 saw the break-up of Solecism, with the County of Amarr going to Yardistan and the County of Highpass to the Kingdom of Lichbrook.
Culture
The Federation - and certainly its Concert - has embraced the musical nature of its home city, with regular musical interludes to commence voting in the legislature, and sheet music-based motifs dominating the flag (above) and naval ensign. The official musical instrument of the Federation since its inception has been the Accordion, and its official animal the Victorian Accordion-Playing Monkey.
