History

The Corps of Auxiliaries was originally established as the Imperial Directorate of Works & Labour to provide a workforce for the rear area operations conducted in support of the Imperial Forces.

I Labour Corps was formed in 1638AN.6182ASC for deployment to Zy-Rodun, an island and Imperial Dominion under the Emirate of Sathrati as part of Operation Long Haul, a military exercise to test the capacity of the Imperial Forces to conduct an overseas operation and to establish a forward logistics base.

The Corps was divided into three divisions of approximately 46,000 labourers each which in turn divided into four works groups of 11,500 labourers per division.

The experiment was not judged to have been a success and the labourers were dismissed after their first deployment.

The late Kaiser Dominus identified the potential for developing a substantial reserve of drones, re-purposed and cybernetically enhanced hominids, that would have been fully programmable and held in reserve for assignment to tasks as appropriate, without the usual risks and costs of employing civilians. This was, unfortunately, held up as being an example of the Kaiser's growing insanity and eventually would be used as a further justification for his overthrow and murder in 1644.

Instead in 1645 the Directorate was amalgamated with the Directorate of Logistics, to form the Corps of Auxiliaries with the intent of creating a more proficient force capable of supporting deployed Imperial Forces on operations.

Support vehicles and landing craft were transferred from the Imperial Army to the Corps of Auxiliaries in 1647.

In 1652, a large deployment of 75,000 auxiliaries was authorised to secure Batavia against an anticipated Jingdaoese incursion. This fear proved to be unfounded, however the deployment helped to reinforce the Western Benacia Garrison, which was facing a rising tide of discontent following the displacement of the Froyalanish population of northern and eastern Benacia to the far west.

In the years 1651–1652 a vast force of Auxiliaries deployed into western and central Benacia; their twofold objective was the securing Batavia against Jingdaoese incursions whilst simultaneously battling partisan groups and oversized apex predators for dominion over the ruins of the capital of the fallen Minarborean Empire.

Beginning in 1653, the surviving local militias and security forces of the Imperial Dominions were absorbed into the organisation of Auxiliaries.

During the War of Lost Brothers (1653–1656) the Corps of Auxiliaries formed a pool of substitute manpower to augment the fighting power of allied armies along the various fronts of the global conflict - in particular Auxiliaries were deployed in large numbers to reinforce Army Groups in Arboria and Floria & Saint-Andre. As the war of attrition took its toll on the legions of the Imperial Army auxiliaries were drafted in increasing numbers to fill the gaps in the ranks - causing some resentment between the green auxiliaries and the exhausted veterans of the legions.

In 1665 the Corps was placed under the authority of the Chief of the General Staff for Benacia Command, as the Prince of Modan sought to ensure the political reliability of the Imperial Forces.
