The Proletarian Democratic Union, or simply Proletaria, was the result of a merger between the People's United Republic, led by Ryan Caruso and the People's Democracy of Rasperia, led by Dafydd Young. The People's United Republic, originally founded by Thomas Hubert, comprised the states of Rulak and Umoja. Rasperia, on the other hand, contained parts of the former Free Republic and the Skerry Islands. The two nations formed one of the few powerfully successful mergers in the Apollo Sector and changed their name to Proletaria.

Dafydd Young was elected the first Premier of Proletaria, Kuralyov aka Eddie Guimont was made Minister of Defence and Ryan Caruso became Minister of the Interior and Culture. For several months Proletaria was the premier social democracy in the sector and maintained a wide range of contacts and development.

Proletaria continued to maintain a small circle of dedicated citizens. Among them many notable micronationalists, including William Howard aka Antonio Vitores Ramon, William Jesmer, and Philip Locke. The project eventually set the stage for the formation of the Republic of Baracáo, which abandoned the generalised communist theme for a Cuban one and became extremely popular. After that point, Proletaria faded out of history. Proletaria represented the last Earth-based socialist micronation within the Apollo Sector; all subsequent socio-communist micronations would be explicitly based on Micras.

The flag of Proletaria was based on an Earth flag. The yellow disc representing the sun and light, the green cog the Earth and people/workers, the white disc the moon, and the red star the left-leaning government. It was designed by both Ryan Caruso and Dafydd Young.
