Aviel Muur was an Elfinshi student and rights activist.

Life in Ardashirshahr

Aviel held a Tlygowa Scholarship and was . The endowment that accompanied the scholarship award proved to be insufficient to cover the costs of tuition fees, rents, academic materials and the general cost of living in a southern metropolis. As a consequence, by virtue of her ethnicity, being of a despised minority in an overwhelmingly Babkhi city and facing the looming prospect of destitution, Aviel took a job working part time in an anarchist library. In so doing she gravitated towards the more counter-cultural districts of the city where the marginalised were able to afford each other some solidarity.

Activism

Aviel was a member of the militant civil rights movement known as Elfinshi Fury and as a consequence moved in the same circles as the more hostile and extremist Elfinshi Liberation Army which advocated a policy of violent separation from the human population of Elwynn and the conduct of active reprisals against the Babkhi population of the country.

Relationship with Noor Bint Danyial

Aviel was introduced to Noor Bint Danyial at an illegal student party held in an abandoned warehouse in the Bandar-e Osman harbourside district of Ardashirshahr. After a night of drinking, pill popping and rather unfortunate attempts at dancing, Aviel took Noor home to her squat, a bedsit above the anarchist bookstore. Noor it seems was enjoying 'slumming it' with the poor and enjoyed the thrill of the somewhat transgressive relationship that developed between her and Noor. What attracted Aviel to the rich Babkhi heiress is not recorded. The two young women had a passionate relationship for the first two years of the degree. However, the relationship ended unexpectedly when Aviel broke it off without citing any reasons. Three days later the stabbed body of Aviel was found in the Blue Elwynn. No perpetrator for Aviel's homicide was found. Despite the grief, shock and the many questions resulting from her girlfriend's death, Noor completed her degree with honours later the same year, just before Roqpin 1624.

In some conservative corners, the most controversial part of the relationship was the difference in social status and ethnicity, while in others, it was the fact that it was same-sex.

A Babkhi woman and an Elfinshi woman in a cross-ethnic/inter-species same-sex relationship raised a few eyebrows. Many Elfinshis didn't like the relationship, and in some corners of the Babkhi community it was also seen as wrong.

Death

Cold Case Investigation

In 1637 the King of Elwynn instructed the Arandur of Alalehzamin and Utasia to conduct an investigation into the circumstances surrounding Aviel Muur's death. After discussions with the Stallari of the City Watch of Ardashirshahr, it was agreed that the city watch would establish a 'cold case' team to investigate the matter and make recommendations to the Court of Star Chamber if any person still living could be indicted for the crime.

Initial suspicion alighted upon the Dark Orchid Society, however back in 1624 Noor was not a prominent regime target and the Dark Orchid Society would have been primarily focused re-establishing its network of supporters and the logistical means to support their future activities. As such it would have been unlikely to sanction an act that would have exposed it prematurely just for the benefit of removing one loudmouth student activist from the gene pool.

On the other-hand it would be potentially consistent with a lone wolf attack by some disgruntled alienated person, who may then have been recruited by the society as it moved into its phase of active operations.

Or the other possibility was that Aviel, like most murder victims, was killed by someone already known to her.
