Valentine

Valentine, known after his death in 1428 as St. Valentine, was a Cedrist priest martyred during the reign of Kaiser John II. Kaiser John II was an unrighteous sovereign who consorted with daemons and waged a bitter war against Elwynn. The story tells that St. Valentine was imprisoned for marrying Brookshirian and Elwynnese couples and aiding Cedrists being persecuted by John in Shirekeep. Both acts were considered serious crimes. A relationship between the saint and Kaiser began to grow, until Valentine attempted to convince the Kaiser of the folly of worshipping daemons. John became enraged and sentenced Valentine to death, commanding him to renounce his faith or be beaten with clubs and cast into the Chamber of Mur.

St. Valentine refused to renounce his faith and Cedrism, and was thrown into the pit outside the southern wall of Raynor's Keep on Morsday the 28th of Mo'lluk 1428. Because St. Valentine was put to death for officiating over marriages, the 28th of Mo'lluk has been Singles Appreciation Day ever since, for it was the prudent priests who avoided courting martyrdom who eventually restored the faith during the reign of Kaiser Erik II as the foundation and bedrock of our Imperial Republic.
