A point of clarification about duchies..
I'm not sure if I did it in the past.. present.. or... err.. future... but.. all duchies are based on their old geography again, not on any old contracts. I think all the contracts got revoked a few Kaisers ago...

Allrighty... I'll move the subdivision fora back to their geographically consistent places, then.

Re: A point of clarification about duchies..
Can one of you two do a new map of the Duchies? I'd do it myself, but I don't understand the history well enough ... just show the five major duchies on the current MCS map, I'm sure the dukes can work out counties themselves.

However, this account still manages:
Cla'Udi - Count of Melangia
Manuel - CEO of VBNC. For all you'll ever need.
Vincent Waldgrave - Lord General of Gralus
Q - Director of SAMIN
Duke Mel'Kat - Air Pirate, Melangian, and Duke of the Flying Duchy of Glanurchy
And references may be made to Vur'Alm Xei'Bôn (a Nelagan Micron of undisclosed purpose).

Re: A point of clarification about duchies..
You know you're Shirithian when, even after Debigification, you look at the MCS map and go "wait, we own that place?"...
Anyway, a quickly whipped up map that's probably wrong in many ways is up at http://omploader.org/vNnQ5 . Borea-Elwynn is brown, Brookshire crimson, Kildare light purple, Yardistan aquamarine-ish, Straylight... well.. blue

Re: A point of clarification about duchies..
Looking at that map, I think I can say offhand that Bjorngard should be in Elwynn instead of Brookshire.. and Melangia in Kildare instead of Yardistan. I think. Putting Norfolk down as Yardistani was a pure guess... as were Florencia and Naudia'Diva.

Re: A point of clarification about duchies..
Benacia and Naudia'Diva and the islands in between were, I believe, part of Brookshire before the Contract era, and Florencia was in Yardistan. I'm almost certain that Norfolk was in Kildare.
I'm not sure at all about Melangia, but Kildare would make sense. Bjorngard, I think, is what remains of a former protectorate, but I think you're right that it should go to Elwynn; it's probably only in Brookshire due to having reverted to "Crown land", so to speak, at some point.

Re: A point of clarification about duchies..
OK, new version at http://omploader.org/vNnRh ... now someone just needs to make a traditional-style map of Shireroth again (take http://bill3000.hypermart.net/Shireroth/ParingG.png , remove the yellow areas and the other bits we don't have anymore, and recoulour the duchies... which, come to think of it, is what I should have just done in the first place... ah well)

Re: A point of clarification about duchies..
Can someone please explain to me the provincial system here?
I was under the impression that Kildare, Brookshire, and Yardistan are the duchies, and the counties are subservient to them.
So does that mean that each count has a say of what goes on in all the duchy their county is part f?

Re: A point of clarification about duchies..
For most of Shireroth's history the power to create subdivisions has "flown downward"... the Duchies exist at at the will of the Kaiser, the Baronies exist at the will of the Dukes, and the Counties exist at the will of the Barons (or the Dukes as the case for some). That's the case right now, for instance. We've got the five duchies of Brookshire, Borea-Elwynn, Kildare, Yardistan and Straylight, and those duchies in turn may have baronies and counties (the former with Landsraad approval).
However, it's not so long ago that there was a period when the flow was reversed... every citizen was granted a county, and you were supposed to get into a feudal contract with somebody else to form fiefs with higher power.
We've still got a lot of weirdness carried over from that time.

Re: A point of clarification about duchies..
Nope. Not a square meter of it. Well, let's say, where Straylightians live, there's generally either a lot of water under them, or more rarely a lot of water over them (and in very rare cases both).

Is it a definite that Naudia'Diva and those islands just east of it are staying with Yardistan, then? I have no objections, I just want to make sure... I'm just thinking about trying a sort of map of my own.
On another note, I also seem to recall that little bit with Musica belonging to Yardistan as well once...
