Formation and Structure
The structure of the Imperial Army is relatively streamlined into administrative divisions and operational legions. A legion will have at least three core regiments that pertain to its mission function as well as any additional squadrons or troops required to perform operationally. A legion on operations therefore is the beating heart of a battle group, known as a vexillatio.
Legions may be transferred into and out of territorial Divisions

By a minor historical quirk, the Kaiser's personal bodyguard, the Kampioen Guards, was for a time placed under the command of the Imperial Navy. After the re-establishment of the Imperial Army, the Kampioen Guards were re-brigaded into the Old Guard as part of the Palatini Corps of the Imperial Army.
The Kampioens were supplanted in their role by the Order of the Sentinels, which reported to the Kaiser directly and sat entirely outside the structure of the Imperial Forces.
Comitatus (Field) Army
The comitatenses comprised the field army of the Imperial Republic, capable of dispatch to conduct fully mobile, mechanised and expeditionary warfare, in contrast to the primarily defensive frontier troops.
