Aerlig was founded on August 23rd, 2001, and will this year celebrate its fourth birthday. Aerlig was founded by Mike Phyle an ex-Cyberian who is not citizen of Aerlig anymore. Aerlig was the first succesful non-Ezboard English micronation that does not claim real territory, first using Ikonboard and then moving on to Invision Power Board. Aerlig was kept alive during 2001-03 through the work of three key citizens- Lachlan Powers, Jouker Sendler and Subhadip Sen. Subhadip left in 2003, but Jouker and Lachlan remain citizens, with Lachlan currently the Protector of the Republic. Aerlig is now a member of the Grand Commonwealth
