Education of Imperial Pages
Pages undergo three rounds of selection during their time at Dirâsat-an-Nûr. The first selection is what brings them to the school in the first place. Prospective pages are identified according to the aptitude and quality of the specimen from the Imperial Gymnasia, located throughout the Imperial Republic to educate the children of Loyal Subjects. This recruitment process is overseen by the Master of Pages when the children are between 11 and 12 years old.
The first year is spent as a Candidate, residing in the Outer Dormitory.
At the end of that first year, the Candidates are subjected to the second selection. Those who meet or exceed expectations are inducted as Novice Pages and assigned a billet in the Lower Dormitory. From this point onward, the pages begin to serve rotations as servants within the Imperial Court. Those who fail the second selection are returned to their Imperial Gymnasium of origin.
The third selection takes place when Novice Pages reach the age of 15. During the selection period, the leaders of each hall of the Upper Dormitory subject the prospects to a broad range of examinations, covering the range of skills thusfar. At the end of the selection period, each hall individually recruits as many as necessary to fill the vacant billets available to them without diminishing the quality ranking of the hall. Those who pass through the third selection are inducted as Qualified Pages. Those who fail to be tapped by a hall are returned to their Imperial Gymnasium of origin.
At the end of five years as a Qualified Page, one is subjected to a final round of examination. This is done according to proficiency level rather than the number of vacancies to fill. Those who complete this round are elevated to the status of Adept Pages. Adept Pages continue to live in their hall within the Upper Dormitory, acting as leaders for that hall, until they are recruited for service elsewhere in the Imperial Household Agency.
