The nation's first election for Imperial Ombudsman drew to a close today. With all nine votes by active and eligible citizens having been cast, Kaiser Mors IV declared the vote ended, the requisite week for voting having passed without incident.

"It was a close election," His Majesty announced, "but it appears that with five votes to four a winner can be declared: Harvey is now the first Imperial Ombudsman of Shireroth!"

As Ombudsman, Harvey's duties will be "to talk to the citizens of Shireroth, to advise the Kaiser of their needs, wants and opinions, and to transmit their messages anonymously to the Kaiser," according to Imperial Decree #150 that established the office.

Just What Are You Implying?

This week also saw the introduction of the Implied Summons Bill in the Landsraad by Kaiser Mors. The proposal, modified only slightly from the original plan by MoMA Fax Celestis, seeks to speed up the process by which Ministers are summoned to the Landsraad. If passed, it would allow nobles to include summons in the titles of their bills if those bills are directly related to matters under the Minister's authority, although the Prtorwould still have final say over whether or not the summons is valid.

The bill is in large part a response to the row caused during the discussion over the Joining the Micronational RecWar Society bill, in which the MoMA was chastised for speaking in the Landsraad without a formal summons, even though the bill was related to his position and he had input to give.

The Duke of Goldshire Returns!

Ruhan Zarathustra Erudinzadeh (or however you spell that) returned today with remarkably little fanfare, popping in at General in the second page of the FNORD!!! discussion. He also reappeared in his native Goldshire, musing about the building of heathen temples or some such.

Welcome back, Zary. You can't run, you can't hide! WE SEE ALL! A Mild Case of Dystopia

Hypatia Agnesi, the Dutchess of Kildare, recently placed into the Tony Au Library a copy of the essay that took up so much time over the previous semester, "Dystopia as Social Commentary: At What Cost Stability?". The essay is an examination of the various facets of human society that stories of futures-gone-wrong seek to focus attention upon.

It's a very interesting article, and it makes you think a bit beyond the sheer joy of watching people get brainwashed into submission, so have a look!
