I know, I know, not much of a front-page story, but... we had to.

The Kaiser signed the Treaty of Shirekeep yesterday, completing the second required authorization for the Treaty to take effect. All that remains is for President Conway of the VCC to sign the document before this historic peace process is completed.

The signing ceremony was also attended today by Emperor Jacobus, who had been away on business. While some Shirerithians, remembering the earlier rockiness of the peace talks between Jacobus and Mr. Grieve, have been wondering if his return would disrupt the proceedings, it seems that these fears are unfounded. Jacobus wholeheartedly applauded and approved the treaty and Technarchus Dunkin's work in negotiating terms:

"...When I was called away on urgent RL business, I asked the Prime Technarch, Mr. Dunkin, for his aid and assistance in the conclusion of this Treaty. He has exceeded every expectation that I may ever have imagined and has earned my thanks.

My thanks also to Envoy Sir Alan Grieve who endured great hardship in the crafting of this Treaty, and to President Conway.
My thanks and the Thanks of all Civilized Micronationry should especially be given to His Imperial Majesty Raynor XI for his steadfast belief in peace as well as his hospitality under trying circumstance.
For the last time I employ my powers as Absolute Monarch to ratify this Treaty on behalf of the RCC."

We here at the View don't know if there's such a thing as a Micronational Peace Prize, but maybe it's a good time to start making one.

MiniTrade Resigns Minister of Trade Ozarka Monto resigned from his post today, citing an inability to perform his job due to other issues in his life, a lack of access to economic-based computer programs, and an undeniable lack of interest in the economy from his fellow Shirerithians. The Kaiser accepted his resignation, leaving it unclear as to who will take Ozarka's place.

The ex-Minister is, expected to be retiring to his native Barony of Hallucination, where he is caring for former Baron Austi Scot in his final days.

Who Says We Can't Vote?

A poll posted in the Off-Topic forum Wednesday on the readership of the View From Benacia returned very encouraging figures. We at the editorial staff would like to thank our readers for their responses, and for their apparently avid readership of our paper.

As we go to print, the results of the poll "How often do you read the View?" were as follows, with 15 votes total:

every time it's published - 9 votes (60%) at least once a week - 4 votes (26.7%) only if a major event reminds me to - 0 votes (0%) never - 1 vote (6.7%) I didn't know we HAD a national newspaper of that name - 1 vote (6.7%)

Thus, by an overwhelming majority, the those responsing tp the poll enjoy our stories on a regular basis, even if they do not catch all the stories. The double-digit turnout, too, points to high readership among the Shirerithian population.

Due to these extremely positive results, the View can continue its mission with a combination of confidence, hope, and mischievous scheming once more.
