Raikothin Spitz

The Raikothin Spitz (in Hyperborean: kiga) is the only dog breed native to Raikoth. It probably descends from sled dogs brought by the ancestors of the Volsaarns, and serves as transportation, hunting and farming help, and companionship.

The other common name for the dog is ovur, meaning "teacher". Korli Niderion, when preaching simple and universal happiness, recommended his words be taught to all the children in the land. And, he said "The children will learn it from their parents, who learned it from their parents, who learned it from the priests, who learned it from the high priests, who learned it from me. And I learned it from my dog."

Every year, during February, there is a dog sled race from Raikoth to Svralus, an old Amokolian town constructed entirely on the polar ice cap with no land beneath it whatsoever. Although citizens of Raikoth, Shireroth, Ashkenatza, Amokolia, and even far-off Stormark compete, the winning team has always been of Raikothin Spitze.
