The Epistle of the Peaceful Pastures from the copy kept at the Vandísarhall.

The Epistle of the Peaceful Pastures is a letter to the Hurmu Tribes written during the Days of Old Tale by Jarl Harald of Ettlingar Freyu and delivered to them by his Principal Travel Companion Lady Hallbjörg Grétarsdóttir.

About

The letter was written in the latter days of the Conquest of the Heartland while he was attending the negotiations concerning the Pact of the Heartland which took place on the isle of Grand Arcadia.

Earlier in the Conquest of the Heartland, the Hurmu Tribes, assembled in their Parlerment of the Republik, had written a letter to Jarl Harald calling on him not to fight them. They had written that although they renounce violence, civil obedience would be their way of opposing his rule. They may have sounded very harsh in their letter, but they were influenced by their fears that they would meet the same fate as the more barbaric tribes of the Heartland.

In the Epistle of the Peaceful Pastures Jarl Harald confirmed his acceptance of the wish of the Hurmu Tribes not to be brought under his rulership in recognition of the support and shelter given to him and Lady Hervör by the Hurmu Tribes during the couple's escape from the Blood Parley.

Two identical copies of the Epistle were executed. One was kept by Jarl Harald and stored for safekeeping in the Vanadísarhall; the other copy, which was delivered to the Parlerment of the Republik, is nowadays being kept in the Archives of Hurmu in the Temple of the Lakes, at Haraldsborg.
