Emeraldia, officially known as the Irish Republic of Emeraldia, was an Irish-themed Micronation that existed from November 6th, 2006 until July 5th, 2007, and was founded by Zach Anderson, under the Irish name Aaron O'Wray. At it's hight, the IRE had around 10 citizens, had an active government, and somewhat thriving culture. All this would ultimately be destroyed by the fighting between opposing factions within the government resulting in one party seizing control of the forums (multiple times) and then proceeding to delete the forums.

History

Foundation/Interim Period- Founded on November 6th, 2006 by then Interim President Aaron O'Wray, the Irish Republic of Emeraldia started out small. O'Wray was the only citizen, and had to go out and recruit his macronational friends so that the nation could operate. The Original governing document, the Declaration of Emeralida, established O'Wray as the Interim President, and gave him the authority to establish and agency he wished for the government to operate, and called for a constitutional convention to be held as soon as possible. The First Constitutional Convention was held in mid-late November, and on November 27, 2006, the Convention approved of the First Constitution (this document no longer exists). Throughout December, the people of Emeraldia prepared for the transfer of power from the Interim Government to the new Constitutional Government. In late December elections were held for the 3 open seats in the Seanad (the Emeraldian Legislature), and for the Presidency. After there was some controversy, new elections were held, and Aaron O'Wray was elected to the Presidency, with Nathaniel Trimbel, Owen Blake, and Eilis Maloney being elected to the Seanad.

Period of the First Constitution- Emeraldia functioned under the first Constitution from January 9th, 2007, when the first elected Seanad was called to order, to March 20th, 2007, when the Second Constitution was approved. Immediately after the new government took office, the National Forums were moved from FORUMER to PROBOARDS after a series of problems with the first provider at the first of the month. Emeraldia would exist on PROBOARDS until late April/Early May. Just days after taking office, Seanadior Nathaniel Trimbel resigned, and 'left' Emeraldia for over 2 months. Rodhlann Pierce assumed his seat, and The Department of Science was put under the Department of the Interior. The First Seanad soon passed the National Forum Code act, placing guidelines on posts made by citizens, including a section requiring citizens to respect others in their posts. The Seanad also fiercely debated a controversial law making Christianity the State Religion, and a National Language Law making Gaelic one of the two official religions. These laws were unpopular with some citizens. In February, Liam Reagan, the Secretary of Defense, began to complain that the President had to much administrative power over the forum. He was ignored by most, and so decided to take matters into his own hands. Since most of the citizens all attended the same macronational high school, and used the high school's library to access the national forum, Reagan was able to access the President's account when the President accidentally left himself logged on when he left suddenly. Reagan seized the opportunity, and took over the forums. Reagan was in charge of the forums for several days, before the President and Secretary of Foreign Affairs were able to get things under control. Reagan was removed from office, and was charged with treason. However, his lawyer, Vice President Rodhlann Pierce, was able to get the Chief Justice to throw the case out, because there was technically no law forbidding treason. In response to all of this, a Constitutional Convention was called to order at the end of February, which resulted in the 2nd Constitution, which had provisions about treason, as well as had better defined powers for forum administrators.
