Malarbor says: Board upgrade. Yay!

[Ari Rahikkala]

It's that time of ear again: phpBB 3.0.4 is out and our ailing 3.0.1 installation is beginning to worry Ari as a possible nest of security bugs.

The maintenance plan is to backup the board database and files first (already underway), lock the board, upgrade to a pristine-ish 3.0.4, and to then rewrite our homebrewed board mods - which got steamrolled in the previous phase - in a form more suitable for long-term maintenance and for installation by reasonable people. In other words, we'll be without the Malarbox or grouped moderator display for a while. I'm sure that won't be a problem.

(the reason why those mods need to be rewritten is mostly that they're in demand around the microworld. Well, Bill asked for a version of the grouped moderator display mod for Nelaga anyway. There'll probably be advantages in making further board upgrades easier too, though.)

Do hold on to your hats, there'll probably be a few bumps along the ride. The board'll be closed for update soonish.
