Why isn't it in Romanian and Bulgarian?

Post by Rai Avon-El »

Got my new passport, yay.

It's got the information in all official EU languages, except Romanian and Bulgarian.

I DEMAND THAT MY PASSPORT INCLUDES ROMANIAN AND BULGARIAN.

What kind of discrimination is this?

Anyway, getting the passport was really easy. Thanks to Swedish efictivity. I went to the police station, showed them my old passport, asked for a new. They took my old, entered by national registration number into the computer, adjusted my height (i've grown 5 cm the last 5 years), took a picture of me, and that's it. A week later I could collect it.

But it's still not in Romanian and Bulgarian!

UPDATE:

At a closer look it's not even in Irish either. My last passport and my UK passport include Irish!

Who do I contact to rectify this institutional discrimination of official languages?

Part of the Western European mentality that Eastern Europe (well, Central Europe, because the geographical centre of Europe is just outside Vilnius, Lithuania :document ) is still somehow 'new'... for feck's sake, Romania and Bulgaria have been independent since the 1870s!
Weird how your passport will have text in Irish Gaelic (spoken by 14% of the population of Eire), yet not Romanian and Bulgarian, spoken by 38 million altogether...
I wonder... does your passport have Slovene, too?

Yes it does. It has Maltese too. At least that's what I think it is. Looks Semitic enough :-p

Maltese? Epic win! :party

Hope we don't have Russia joining the E.U, for argument's sake... I don't want my passport in Yakut, Udmurt, Tatar, Komi, Kalmyk, Mordvin, Karelian etc...
Welsh would be bad enough! :D

From Wikipedia:

"First page

Information on the first page, in some of the official languages of the European Union:"

Countries can apparently choose what 12 languages they want to display on the first page.

Very. It's much cooler to have all 23 official languages.

I think the reason it's not in Gaelic could be because:
Like all languages other than Irish English and Welsh the primary funcation of Gaelic is actually to prevent communication rather than aid it as this has been scientifically proven by almost all English Irish and Welsh academics.

The dialectical rule applied in this situation is :

There is AT LEAST one person who can speak Irish.

BUT

There is AT MOST one person who can speak Gaelic.

It took me, like, 15 minutes to figure out how to say that! Romanian is so hard!
