Restoration of Cognito and associated territories

Post by Jacobus Loki »

My Brothers,

The Senate of the Federal Republic of Cyberia is currently voting itself out of the colony and empire business, and withdrawing from all interest in Micras or Geiss.

I have a personal interest in these territories, and I desire to see them prosper.

Forces of the Duchy of Yardistan, supported by our brethern of Shireroth, and lead by Count Prodigy and myself, are nearing the west coast of Cognito.

Here is the list of territory being yielded by the FRC:

Cognito, Lac Glacei, Absentia, Kloss, Loreley, the Principality of Stromblum, (encompassing the three duchies of Lorelei, Edelweiss and Heathersland), the area designated as the Freimark, Vivaldia, Alara, Alterra, Aspyxnia, Greater Baldonios, Burnisia, Edan, Formiga, Jaris, and Cocoanut Grove.

Cognito, Lac Glacei, and Absentia, were the lands of my people from ancient days.

Kloss, Loreley, the Principality of Stromblum, (encompassing the three duchies of Lorelei, Edelweiss and Heathersland), and the area designated as the Freimark were territoires acquired by the Grand Duke Ryan, and annexed to the former under his Grand Duchy.

Vivaldia, Alara, Alterra, Aspyxnia, Greater Baldonios, Burnisia, Edan, Formiga, and Cocoanut Grove were conquests of the United Imperium in days of old.

The United Imperium claimed a Protectorate over Jaris.

I suggest that the Imperial Republic annex these territories forthwith, and entrust them to the Duchy of Yardistan, at least for the present.

Yes, there are others who may have taken or attempted to take adverse possesion of these lands. We are strong militarily, but we are also blessed by having some of the best diplomats in the world, and the details of boundaries and such we can trust to their efforts.

Thus we shall also make our righteous claims evident to the world at large.

What say you, brothers?

Several of those lands are in Toketi's possession (or soon will be), so you will not be repossessing them. I won't allow it.

Wonderful, I think ...

Though, if I may ask, would I be right in saying that none of these territories awereactually held, in a physical, mapping sense, by the Cyberians?

My intentions have not been to start a war, (at least not directly).

The Federal Republic of Cyberia has not participated in the Micras map. There are a lot of reasons for that, that will not tax the imagination. They desire to get out of the colony business, walk away from Micras and/or Geiss, (and thus the conflict with the reminants of the VCC) and do their own thing.

I am the founder of Cognito & Lac Glacei. Jacobus II a/k/a Jakey, my "nephew", founded Absentia. (BTW, Starbase Absentia and the Starship "Improvise" go along with that).

The other territories represent other claims beyond the FRC of my House that have attached, barnacle-like to the FRC. A number of these were added to the Grand Duchy of Lac Glacei by Grand Duke Ryan. He also acquired other territory that went with the Grand Duchy.

Now, I hold that my claims added to the fact that many of these territories were unlawfully (?!!?) stripped from Shireroth, give us a very strong claim on them.

His Niftiness has instructed us not to start a war over this. We have among us diplomats of skill and daring. Failing that, we have brave warriors.

Personally, I'm trying to clean up my act, and prefer to aggrandize Shireroth and Yardistan rather than attempt a revival of the United Imperium.

The most of the territory of Cognito is unclaimed, although it is now occupied by our forces.

I am well aware "claims" do not always lead to "posession", but I trust in His Nifitiness and our warriors and diplomats to create a favourable solution.

Time runs fast in micronationry, and we have more patience than most.

We have established an Ice Cream Parlour on the south shore, associated with garages for the Ice Cream trucks of the Lac Glacei Liberation League.

It is my hope to persuade the followers of B'Caw to add a facility where Spicy Chicken may also be consumed, so that the People can remember their Shirithian heritage, to the glory of the Nation and the Kaiser.

Perhaps this will be the center of a new City? Yes!

No, it comes from History.

There was a post waaaaayyy back then, something to the effect that the Emperor would be travelling incognito.

Well, a quick edit, and the Emperor was travelling in Cognito, which became a province immediately.

So the capital city, became, of course, Ergo Sum.

Since the traditional site of Ergo Sum is past the borders of Shirirthian Occupied Cognito, I thought New Ergo Sum would be a reasonable name for a new town.

Just down the road from Kernsville, on the way to Prodigigrad. :D

After playing Yvain's Scavenger hunt, and noticing the Audentior territory held long by the Apollo foundation right next to Kildare ... I'd like to say that if Riponia doesn't end up claiming the whole thing (and even if they do we can negotiate, I'm sure), we go forth and try to take back the lands that were once Audentian, and rebuild them in their image. It's only small, after all ...

As those of you who have been watching the Order know, I like to do things with math. So, when looking through the MCS archives, I was very excited to find this thread, announcing results of a Shireroth Geographic Survey no less: http://www.micromaps.org/foruma/viewtopic.php?t=212

Apparently, Shireroth had more land per person than any other nation except the Grand Commonwealth and Attera. I don't see either of those nations on the present map, so I assume they died. That means we have way more land per person than any other country on the map.

So it doesn't really seem fair to me that we should be trying to get more land. We should be thankful for what we have, and let other countries who have less land per person than we do catch up.

Ah, but Yvain, if they're talking about Attera and GC, that's a year or more ago. GC only died recently, but was in death throes for a long time, I gather. Started by Babkha (who are still around, as I'm sure you know).
The other thing is, that was citizens years ago. Active citizens now would probably be the most in any nation, I would think ... go on, see if I'm wrong ...
Well, maybe the whole of CoG would have more, but any ONE nation ...

Now I'm about to hold forth. Please, no one take this as a personal attack. These are issues that need discussion.-
So it doesn't really seem fair to me that we should be trying to get more land. We should be thankful for what we have, and let other countries who have less land per person than we do catch up.
SOCIALIST! Agghh!!

The post admits a lot of the survey is unscientific. There is also a great deal of difference between number of citizens and activity.

And Quality of citizens. Shireroth applies restrictions on multi-citizens, many nations will take you if you have a dozen. These figures do not take into account whether someone gives 1/16th or 15/16ths of his/her time to a nation.

It is also easy to inflate one's citizen count. One boring weekend, and I can show you a country with 15 "active" "citizens". :evil :)

Shireroth has an historical interest in a lot of territory. Using Earth as an example, Russia has a massive amount of land with a relatively small number of citizens. Historically, Russia had interest in large areas of tundra and desert. Now that those are valuable, I don't see them giving any of it to China or Indonesia or the Netherlands.

My personal opinion is that we should first foremost concentrate on keeping the land we have, secondly that we regain land that we once have had, but the lands in the bill, those territories haven't had much to do with the Shirerithian empire (except for those who were Arminian). I don't see why we should unilaterally claim a lot of land that we have no legitimate interest in.

I at the moment have no qualm with holding the right to those names and places. but I agree that we need to focus on the land we have, followed by the lands we once had...

Though Jacobus just made a VERY good argument concerning citizen counts for various applications, not just land.

Shireroth citizens proly have some of lowest percentages of other citizenship then in most other nations due to the tri cit law.

You're planning to take over the entirety of Jaris? That might raise some difficulties, as the Antican province of New Aryez currently occupies the western half.

Perhaps you should post a map showing the territories you intend to annex?

I don't think I have heard anyone seriously proposing throwing an active country out of its own territory--just in reclaiming currently unoccupied land which formerly belonged to Shireroth.

To the concerned, quoting myself, which I do often:
Personally, I'm trying to clean up my act, and prefer to aggrandize Shireroth and Yardistan rather than attempt a revival of the United Imperium.
........
I am well aware "claims" do not always lead to "posession", but I trust in His Nifitiness and our warriors and diplomats to create a favourable solution.
My old United Imperium founded or had a title or claim to a lot of this. It was ceded to Shireroth by Emperor Joseph I, as was Jaris. Before Ryan left the Grand Duchy of Lac Glacei, he and I added more claims to it. Shireroth under a previous ruler retroceded current rights to me, which I assigned to the Federal Republic of Cyberia, which just renounced them in favor of Shireroth, which just accepted them.

The FRC did not participate in the MCS, claiming (with some justification) that "the rules" weren't any fun.

Nobody is invading or trying to take over anybody. Yardistani and other Shirerithian forces "occupy" "unoccupied" Cognito, which was Shiririthian from late 2000 until the infamous Atkinization of the MCS.

For the most part we are building a few cities, and eating Ice Cream, Fired Fish with Mango Sauce, and Spicy Chicken. Any explosions you here are merely BOO/\/\ists giving thanks. (All the better to remind the Cognitians of their Shiritian heritage.)

The battleship and its escorts, the dirigibles, and Prodigy's gigantic robots wih rail guns are there to protect everyone, and keep the ants away from the picnics.

Concerned foreigners are invited to come and picnic with us. Bring your best ethnic dishes, and enjoy ours!

I've a simple and very Kildarian solution ...
Due to various problems when I first wrote my legends for Novatainia, some involving a certain history by Bill claiming absolute accuracy, I created the "magic mirror" argument, which stated that a certain race created a magic mirror for unknown purposes but it messed up stuff, and so was shattered, and that unfortunately shattered reality. It was rebuilt in three separate worlds - one where the bad guys one, one I intend to use to write novels in, pinching all my old legends up to that point, and one which is Micras, which was pasted together out of other worlds, which means that all micronations can have their own "creation of the world" myths, and they can all be entirely true.
Later, because of trouble dating the mirror, I put it really early in the history and said that our world wasn't quite made up perfectly ... but that it ran simultaneous time lines for several thousand years (which explains how various nations have claimed control of our land, and yet our people have always been there).

So, to cut a long story short (and that was the shortest possible explanation, believe me) ...
FRC and MCS have still been running simultaneous but alternate time lines on the same land (so clearly it hadn't all converged by c.500 AD as I previously thought), and Jacobus is taking control of the Cognito in the other timeline. As, indeed, we could do with any of the other lands. If those timelines eventually converge with the one the rest of the MCS is on (ie we claim the land and get accepted), brilliant, if not, we still have it, as such, simultaneously as someone else does ...
