Dellllphi...this could get ugly (Operation Granite Oyster)

Post by Scott of Hyperborea »

SHINE has various people set up watching various things in the micronational underworld. I have promised these people not to reveal their identities, and not to do anything that would end up compromising them or their identities. I will call our friend X for the remainder of this post.X was recently approached by Foghorn in his capacity as head of Zulu 5 with an offer to sell him weapons. X expressed some interest. Foghorn told him that he had a few password crackers, and, when pressed, told X that he would have more stuff soon, because he was going to go online on Octavius' computer and email his (Oct's) entire stash of military weapons to him (Fog). Obviously, this is something you Anticans should start worrying about. X has suggested to Foghorn that Shireroth might be willing to pay very high prices for the weapons, because X actually believes this and is, for whatever reason, under the impression that we are stockpiling to attack you or Attera or someone. What I ask you do NOT do is something rash like arrest Foghorn immediately. As of now, we have only X's word that this is going on at all. As it is, I believe X - however, X is not particularly well-liked or trusted in micronationalism at large, and he may well refuse to testify as he dislikes Antica and would probably be extremely upset if he knew I was telling you. Further, I believe that if you were to arrest Foghorn immediately, he would easily guess who X is, thus depriving me of an agent, X of a friend, and you of your only reliable source of information on this matter. If you were to do anything that led to X's identity being guessed, I would become very, VERY upset. The first step I suggest you take is to make sure Foghorn does not get an opportunity to use Oct's computer. There is a possibility that it might be helpful for Oct to install a keystroke logger (these are free, you can proly find them on Google), make an obvious decoy set of weaponry files, hide the real weaponry files well enough that Foghorn only gets the decoy, and wait for Foghorn to send them to himself. This would give you both evidence and Foghorn's password, assuming you don't have it already. Problem: Foghorn may already have gotten the files, in which case you will wait forever and get nothing. My suggestion is that, in addition to Plan A, I tell X to continue negotiations, pay the money from the Shireroth treasury, and actually get the weapons from Foghorn. This will provide indisputable evidence, and will give me an excellent reason to probe exactly what weapons Foghorn has and what the status his plans to get more off of Oct's computer are. There's all sorts of stuff we can do then, from revealing that this is a sting operation to Octavius pretending he has a keystroke logger when he doesn't and nailing Foghorn on forged evidence to whatever. Please do get back to me on this reasonably quickly. And don't you dare do anything to endanger my agent without talking to me about it first. Edité(e)(s) par: Scott of Hyperborea  à: 4/10/05 16:09
