Abdication

Post by RicLyon »

All things must come to an end.For over a year now have I led this land, except for a small time when we all had the pleasure and honour of seeing David on the ducal throne. When I first came to Elwynn, our grand duchy was a feeble and poor county owing allegiance to the Hyperborean duke. As time passed, Shireroth saw an imperial expansion. Arminy was added to the Empire, and Elwynn came to form a part in the Barony of Hurmu, first under the not-so-illustrious reign of Troy, and later under our beloved Count of Araxion.During the Hurmudan era we tried to have Elwynn’s homelands returned. We petitioned the Nobles for granting Elwynn the right to its traditional home around Shirekeep. We didn’t have much luck there. As Arminy departed to follow its own destiny, Elwynn now was a part of Brookshire. Still a county, aye, but an active and productive one. David and I then decided to have Elwynn elevated and so Elwynn became a barony. The Elwynnese Barony was a time of great struggle. We tried hard, all of us, to give Elwynn back its righteous place as a duchy reborn. And we all succeeded. We made it. We achieved our duchyhood, and I am very glad for that. We did what we wanted – restoring Elwynn her own glory. Praise the Goddess. She has watched over us.The ducal days saw many transformations. For the first time in Shirerithian history there was an independent court, a rule of law. Elwynn has a lot to be proud of. My friends, in Elwynn we have freedoms, we have rights. In these lands we will not be silenced by tyrants. Together we have created such a community. We stick together. Even when we have internal disputes we stick together when outsiders try and force their viewpoint upon us, or when they are mistreated in other parts. I am very glad that we have come to form such a friendship to each other, and a loyalty to this birth-land of ours. And now when I have seen all that Elwynn has become under my time, I feel so happy. I am so happy that our great Goddess’s glory has been restored, and our land’s honour brought back. I can return to my manor at Cape Farewell and I can have piece in my heart. Our land is at peace, and is prospering.Gold flows in our River. We have luxuries we could not have dreamt of before.Seeing all these joys, I feel confident that Elwynn may continue on its path of prosperity, and avoiding any road of ruin. Still, my time has come. I wish to return to my home, to the northern lights, the midnight sun and the polar nights, to my home at Cape Farewell. I shall remain with you, but you will choose a new leader.I am happy leaving the ducal position now at the height of Elwynn’s prosperity. I have done what I can, and my work is done. And I trust you, my friends, to choose a new Duke or Duchess, a new leader for our land, so that Elwynn may see a new dawn, a new morning, a new renaissance. I ask that you pray to our Goddess. Pray that she will be in our hearts, in our minds and in our souls, so that all we do we do in honouring her, in loving her. Pray that she watches over us, over our dear Lady the Kaiseress and over our friends in other parts of the Empire. May her blessings be with you. And may the Sun bless you, and the Earth keep you safe.

Good. Because now you'll have time to scurry your butt over to Hurmu and fix it up the same way you did Elwynn. Useless art is simply tolerated vandalism. I am a vandal.

Well? I'm not dignified with a response?! C'mon! It's for Hurmu! Useless art is simply tolerated vandalism. I am a vandal.

I'll respond. :P There are no flowers, no not this time. There will be no angels gracing the lines, just these stark words I find.
