Ideas and a speech on the future of the MoMA.

Post by AngelGuardian93 »

I am currently re-evaluating the military ideas I have established and seek popular opinions about how to realisticly simulate (and operate) a military inside a micronation. So far, having actual soldiers trained in the arts of hacking or spamming have really been of little use, and actually have the capability to create more problems then it's worth. This has allready been established, so realisticly, the defense of a micronation comes down to any admin or moderator (or even common posters, as was the instance of previous attacks on Shireroth) who happen to be surfing the board when an attack comes. Not all citizens are in the military or even want to participate. This makes having an actual military quite useless in terms of real defense. So what's left for a micronational army? Offense is the first word most would think of, but no, this too is unpractical for a military army. If a serious spam/hacking offensive war was launched, the hacking would be done by the military intelligence, and as stated before, training alot of common soldiers in hacking is extremely dangerous (I.E. they could defect and spread it around as general knowledge in an enemy nation) So that leaves the terribly annoying, but generaly harmless institution of spamming. All an admin has to do to stop this is to lock the forums or ban them outright. Annoying, yes, but do-able in terms of defense? Of course. And the third reason an offensive military is unfeasable is, simply put, in the event of war, all the citizens who cared would get involved, regardless of military awareness or allegiance. What's left for a micronational army then? Simply put, the only thing (beyond Military Intell) left for us is the idea called a 'recwar'. To anyone new to micronations who happen to be reading this, I will explain. A recwar is (usually) an agreed upon and willing simulation of how a real war would work, but is acted out like a story, or an RPG. The problem with keeping an army with a recwar is mainly the same problem that we have with real wars, that if it were to develope, any joe schmo would simply chime in saying they have such-and-such a unit, and wish to fight. Once the war is over though, they wouldn't post twice in the military forums. This is where my idea of having the entire army (with notable exceptions) as a militia until a recwar starts came from. Keep a few generals, MI, and R&D scientists actually active between recwars (the dorks who actually care, like me.), and let the rest join as they want to.This is the longwinded reason(s) as to why I did what I did. I need opinions from anyone who cares enough to post that either this is a- good b- bad or c-GAME OVER MAN, GAME OVER! I welcome all opinions, regardless of whether its negative or not. My knowledge of the military is limited, so I welcome any help. Thanks. There are no flowers, no not this time. There will be no angels gracing the lines, just these stark words I find.

It sounds good to me.Might I also suggest a branch of R&D/JASO dedicated to creating micronational modules for popular video games? (Battle for Wesnoth and the Civilizations come to mind...)

Well, i'm not really asking for suport, i'm more asking for ideas on how to better the MoMA-ship. There are no flowers, no not this time. There will be no angels gracing the lines, just these stark words I find.

Yes, but you're making games from scratch. I'm talking about building scenarios for games already made. Can you imagine MechWarrior 4 set in Shirekeep? Excellent.

The only things I have to comment on about the MoMA are two things: 1) the ranking system needs some worling on. It's perfectly fine the way it is, but to be truely realistic it would need to have minor distinctions. But we're working with large numbers here, so those details may get thrown out the window regardless.2)Second, the balancing of power could use some work. Having equally trained units is a good idea, but we could use a sticky thread to keep track of unit statistics. For example, 10 weak footsoldiers could equal 1 unit for a certain County, while 1 knight might equal 2 units for another. In this manner, you could also keep track of the differing technologies between Counties. --- The first step is admitting I have a problem.

On point 1- How could we do that though? Hm... *thinks*On point 2- I have an idea, why not have the government supply the weaponry, thus keeping the duchies loyal (it's where they get their weapons from!), but allow the militia's autonomy until mobilization. Point two: That would work, but there are still might be some weapons unique to a nation. They could be based on existing weaponry, and have more or less the same effect. --- The first step is admitting I have a problem.

Maybe their weapons would have to be approved by the JASO and the MoMA for official military use. Your point about differening techonologies between duchies is quite correct, but having the weapons and training supplied by the MoMA, but allow duchies to create their own if they have the will or the funds seems like a fair balance.
