Kaiserial titles

Post by Scott of Hyperborea »

We need a longer, more impressive sounding formal title for the Kaiser. For example, Ardashir signs his decrees asQuote:Osman Shahanshah, by acclamation of the people, Shahanshah of the Kingdom of Babkha and all her Dominions and Protectorates, Lord of the Four Quarters, Khan of the Blue Horizon, Emir of Raspur, Emir of Iskanderun, Protector of the Grand Commonwealth, Sovereign of the Nishan i-Rastakhiz, Nishan-i-Khurshid, Nishan i-Shir and Nishan i-Taj, Grand Sirdar Bahadur of the Orders of the Kingdom, Expatriaré Baró aux Elwynn, Grand Commander of the Imperial Babkhan Army, Commander of the Báatharz and Kumaran Defence Forces, Knight of Hanover, Knight Commander of the Order of the Eagle, Officer of Gotzborg, Member of the Imperial Order of the Solomonic Empire (Gold Award) and the Imperial Order of the Empress' Rose, Caudillo of La Plata.I briefly triedQuote:His Niftiness Los III, Kaiser of Shireroth, Protector of Comstokia, Keeper of the Apollo Legacy, Knight of the Act in Hanover, Knight of Yoshi in Natopia, Knight of the Royal Jasonian Order and of St. Mark in Ascalon, Knight of the Dragon and Sunburst in Shireroth, Knight of Nizan-i-Rastakhiz in Babkha, Knight of the Viking Crown in Stormark, Scion of Kalir and Lord of the Golden Mango Thronebut most of those are my personal knightships and don't apply to anyone else. So, I was thinking something along the lines of:Quote:His Niftiness, [NAME], Kaiser of Shireroth, Protector of [PROTECTORATES], Keeper of the Apollo Legacy, Grand Master of the Orders of the Dragon, Griffin, Phoenix, and Chimera, Wielder of Vengeance, Count of Shirekeep, [PERSONAL KNIGHTSHIPS AND HONORS], Scion of [BLOODLINE], and Lord of the Golden Mango Throne.Do you like this idea, and can anyone think of anything better? Also, the best I can come up with for my own epithet is "Los the Scribe". Someone think up something that sounds more impressive, yet not totally divorced from reality.

Giant signatures on documents suck. They call it a signature, but no one ever signs their posts...

Agreed. I really, really, dislike the use of long titles. It just seems obnoioxcious. Bill Dusch - Archon of SoloralismCitizen of ShirerothProud to be Apollonianvar txtList = new Array()txtList[txtList.length]="'Whoa! You're in...college now? You got...older! I guess that's what happens when time passes, but still...' - Scott Siskind";txtList[txtList.length]="'The Hindenburg Uncertainty Principle, by contrast states that before you get on a blimp, you can never be certain whether it's going to catch on fire or not' - Scott Siskind";txtList[txtList.length]="Why do I need some cheese?";txtList[txtList.length]="'me to. well almost, we have to worship the living god, Bill3000.' - Hubert";txtList[txtList.length]="'Y'know what? I notice that when replying in this thread, Joe edited out his incredibly long signature, funny that. While I agree that if it were used commonly, the long Kaiserial signature would get annoying to the point of distraction, on Decrees it would lend a nice official tone to the document. Therefore I will look into this and decide whether or not to use the form in my own addresses and Decrees. Thanks for the suggestion.

I only ever use the signature block that Scott mentions for Imperial Farmans... or else when I am trying to annoy people to distraction.

I divined that, since I'd never seen it anywhere before.

Yes, I just mean as a signature on very official documents like decrees or treaties, as a method to awe people at the Kaiser's greatness.

I don't know about "Keeper of the Apollo Legacy", though. It would be both ironic and hypocritical, I feel, for a Shirerithian Kaiser to have that in their title. Not that I have any personal objection to the Apollo Sector, I was, and still would be, a proud member of it. It's just that there has been so much said and done about Shireroth definitely not being Apollo...

[Apollo-mode, you are warned. I still don't mean to offend anyone, nor do I mean to threat. This is just my feelings on this subject, and my own opinion about what should be done about it.]Quote:I don't know about "Keeper of the Apollo Legacy", though. It would be both ironic and hypocritical, I feel, for a Shirerithian Kaiser to have that in their title. Not that I have any personal objection to the Apollo Sector, I was, and still would be, a proud member of it. It's just that there has been so much said and done about Shireroth definitely not being Apollo..."So much said and done." You know what I am going to say - I believe that we should change our attitude. While it is a matter of irony in the sense of how the offical Shireroth government acted for so long, I personally think that it is not hypocritical, as we have changed. First of all, there's this fact - A good number of the elder citizens of Shireroth were Apollonian, and tend to want to preserve what we had done. Even those who weren't from those days tend to want to keep the legacy going. In this case, it may be more akin to Modern Egypt preserving its ancient history. What I propose (the "keeper of the Apollo Legacy" part) is akin to the Byzantine Empire being the keeper of Roman legacy.Just because Shireroth's culture is different from Jasonia and the like, does not mean that it wasn't derived from the old days, and frankly, it would be better if we defended the past, that we had derived from it (despite Erik's wishes for it to not be derived through the goal of the nation, which was to prevent the mistakes of the old Apollo Sector)What's the stigma behind the Apollonians, again? I remember clearly - The fact that we clash, the fact that we merged nations together, the fact that nations fall over and over again. The latter two, while common in the old Apollonian nations, doesn't "define" an Apollonian micronation. What made a nation Apollonian was the group of people that was behind it, and the way customs of the nation were created. And it's obvious the first one (faction clashes) does still exist in our nation.Personally, I believe that the only way to define a mirconational sector is by the commuity of people who are in the sector. What we used to consider the Apollo Sector were as such because we were so close together and had similar habits and the like. It's not the strict definition of "micronations that originate from Audentior", because nations can change what sectors they are in, by changing which people they are communicating and focusing their time with. As such, one could define the death of the Apollo Sector with the birth of Tymaria, which permanently changed the configuration of the communication of the people by the sudden influx of non-Apollonians into Tymaria (relative to the Apollonians, that is) as to declare the sector defunct. (Menelmacar coming in could be considered a "Neo-Apollo Sector", or more precisely, a fiction-fantasy-based sector - {in the sense of realist/fiction earthlike/fantasy} this tends to differ from the old Apollo Sector, which was fiction-earthlike. Perhaps this should be analyzed - a sector could be easily defined by this axis.)I think it's a good compromise to have Shireoth considered the defender of the Apollo legacy. It's not saying "we are Apollo" that offends so many people in the past, but says that we are akin to the Byzantium for Rome - the culture and nature may have changed, but the heritage hasn't. Declaring us as the defending simply says that we could be proud of our heritage and the way our nation was formed, while at the same time admit that we have changed since then and be proud of ourselves. It's win-win - both those who want the past to not be forgotten (e.g. me and other Apollonians) and those who want our nation to be recongized for what it is now (e.g. everyone) could be happy. I didn't mean for that phrase to imply that Shireroth itself was an Apollo nation or part of the Apollo legacy, only that we were the keepers of said legacy - which we undoubtably are, as we control Kildare and have almost all of the former Apollonians as our citizens. Thanks to the work of various people, I think that the Apollo Sector is at least recognized as one of the birthplaces of our current micronational paradigm and that therefore such a claim would reflect toward the glory of the Kaiser.

Quote:Also, the best I can come up with for my own epithet is "Los the Scribe". Someone think up something that sounds more impressive, yet not totally divorced from reality. How about "Los the Farsighted"? Complimentary, and yet it gives a sense of not being able to accomplish all that you hoped... ahead of your time, as it were.Even niftier, maybe try putting it in Hyperborean. Eh? *Nudge* Eh?Quote:Add something like "Overlord of the Duchies of Brookshire, Kildare and Yardistan"?I like that. I also suggest adding a flourish something like the following: instead of saying, for example, simply "Los III", put "Los, Third of the Name". I saw a royal name expressed that way somewhere else once, and I quite liked it.

Alright, so what I'd consider using as my own personal signature:Quote:His Niftiness, Yarad, First of the Name, Kaiser of Shireroth, Protector of Comstokia, Overlord of the Duchies of Brookshire, Kildare and Yardistan, Keeper of the Apollo Legacy, Grand Master of the Orders of the Dragon, Griffin, Phoenix, and Chimera, Wielder of Vengeance, Count of Shirekeep, Knight of the Sunburst, Kampioen of Shireroth, Lieutenant of Blackrock, Scion of Kalir, and Lord of the Golden Mango Throne.Pending finding my Atteran honours and tacking them on there. When we got honourary citizenship in Ascalon, Scott, was there an accompanying award, or was the honour considered enough for us poor theologians?
