It was five years ago today..

Post by Kaiser Yarad I »

General Shane T taught us all that even the best nations eventually die...That's right, five years ago (wow) on this very date, it was announced that Blackrock was no more. On this day, therefore, we celebrate Blackrock Day, to commemorate one of the greatest micronations of this sector. For those of you unfamiliar with it, Blackrock was a secessionist state, the personal project of a handful of crazy Irishmen, who seceeded the coastal town of Blackrock, County Dublin from the Republic of Ireland. It was masterminded and run by the charismatic and madcap Shane T Odlum, whose current project is the Ultimate Comment, a cult/religion/political movement/incredibly-long-lasting-bad-trip which is surpassed in nift only by Shane T himself. Blackrock was my first micronation, and I miss it terribly.Today also marks the start of Chinnam, the Treesian holiday of death and mourning, and possibly the only five-day month to be found in any calendar anywhere. Originally created because I hated irregular month-lengths, it also fit quite nicely with the end of Blackrock and the beginning of Treesia. It may also have been the cause of some extremely erratic lunar activity in Treesia...I never thought of that.So let those of us who remember it tell tales of its exploits and reminisce, and those who don't take stock, and think of how we too can make Shireroth as good a place.

Let us remember this great micronation that I dearly remember as the close allies of my own micronation, as well as probably the nation with the most political influence in the Apollo Sector during its time - yet even more than that. The culture was nifty, the people were nifty, the colors of the forums were nifty, which I can't say for Shireroth. Blackrock was purely nifty, and I am ashamed that I didn't focus on Blackrock myself instead of the United Demesos - probably would have been for the best. Blackrock is an odd nation in my memory because as the leader of the FIoJ I both respected and feared them: respected because of the way they had dealt with our enemies with single-minded ruthlessness, and feared because I was never quite sure they wouldn't do the same to Jasonia. But of course they never did. I can't think of a single other that I simulatenously took as a threat and as something worthy of praise. That's just how nifty Blackrock was.We had some good times. We both had operations in Treesia. They were on our side during the Hubert Wars, invading one nation while we dealt with another. Good times, good times. They died too young, alas.
