Who is Sirocco? And why are his views on parasols so flawed?
I am curious.

Essentially: There's this Let's Playof Dwarf Fortress with a somewhat roleplaying-ish bent (since people have pretty much exhausted most of the wackiest stuff the game can do in earlier LPs) going on. One of the overseers, Sirocco, had the game crash fairly late on his turn (and he'd neglected to take backup saves) after he'd already posted several updates. Since he's one of the better writers involved (this post is not his best work, btw), people encouraged him to start his turn over. He did, and retconned the previous updates as part of a conspiracy to periodically time-loop the fortress in order to test out supersoldiers that would be used to take over the world in order to boost the business of Parasol Corporation... it's uh, a bit referential.

No-one should be without a parasol, Sirocco.

Dwarf Fortress sounds like a fun game. I used to love playing Dungeon Keeper and Sim City.
Oh ye who torments me in dreams of dark abysses, beware the sleeping shadow, for it is a bane like no other...

Re: Ari
To like Dwarf Fortress requires a certain sort of creativity, boredom, misdirected aspiration, and willingness to learn an interface that doesn't really make a lot of sense a lot of the time. It's ludicrously detailed and very much in development... I think this item from the list of changes to be found in the new version (now more than a year in development and expected to be released... well, who knows, but I'm gonna say within months) pretty much sums it up, both for the new and the current version:
Yeah. Basically imagine a citybuilder with that level of detail, and with that amount of bugs in the detail. That's pretty much Dwarf Fortress."Eyelids clean the eyes so you don't have to soap them off, but if an eyelid is torn off, I think they might soap the eyes"
No-one should be without a parasol, Sirocco.

Dwarf Fortress is an awesome game if you have the right mindset for it. If you get bored with it really early, play more, you'll eventually figure out why it's fun.
