Our opinion on the new MCS council member candidates' maps
http://www.micras.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=2173
The maps A and B in the thread above have been presented by two candidates for the new MCS junior cartographer as examples of their mapping work. Each member nation gets one vote, to cast for the one who they expect would make a better cartographer based on this example.
Please vote abstain, A, or B. I'll bring the winner to the MCS's knowledge.
Straylight votes A.

Re: Our opinion on the new MCS council member candidates' maps
As Kaiser I currently plan to abstain from the vote.
If we are electing a person to the council we should know who it is. Some people would be better council members then others, even if they are slightly weaker at making maps.
I think the way the vote is being done makes now sense.

I kinda see where they're coming from with hiding the identities. Mind you, I also see your point about the difference between a good cartographer and a good council member.
Keep in mind, though, that if everybody knew who they were, especially if they turned out to be long-established personalities in the micronational world, there's a very good chance that the qualities of the candidates (whether in mapmaking or in being diplomatic enough to function on a council) would be overshadowed by considerations that ideally shouldn't be involved. I mean, imagine a genuinely good candidate being voted down because too many people think zir micronation sucks. I could totally see it happening, too; I haven't been away so long that I've forgotten how intermicronational politics can get when the MCS is involved.
Their current arrangement isn't perfect, but at least it's semi-objective, and we know we can get someone with SOME kind of skill out of it. The other way might very well turn out to be a crapshoot.
Incidentally: I'd pick cartographer A. B isn't bad either, but I could do as good as that myself.

The SEP-accessful people in this thread might want to check that forum for my very short notes on the events... I'll post the latest #micronations logs on there tomorrow-ish when we've seen whether things have progressed in the more or less interesting direction.

The vote's been restarted at the MCS. Unless Erik wants to do this again, I'll be waiting till the normal bill closing time here and informing the MCS of the result then.
