And I posted all of twice stuff about the band in a thread which is entirely goofing around that wasn't just responding to other people's posts. About ten posts in the whole of Shireroth's forums that have anything to do with them at all from me. I do respect Manowar, that shines through in the posts and it should. However, almost all of those posts that include it, are written with tongue firmly planted in cheek. My humor is absurdist and though the band make me feel wonderful, nonetheless they are absurd (which is much of the reason they appeal to me, probably). Actually listening to them is less important. What is hilarious is the attitude they convey; on one hand its really cheesy. Manowar basically invented modern metal cliches. On the other hand, with the appropriate suspension of belief they can actually be pretty inspiring. Very assertive sort of "We can - We will" type of lyrics.Actually being able to listen and enjoy them is something that comes in time for people who listen to metal, as the general pattern seems to be that once you stop having to take your music and by extension yourself so seriously, you suddenly realize that singing about "Brothers of Metal" with a bunch of friends while drinking together is awesome. Eoin, I think Victoria should become Countess of Cimmeria.Cimmeria's traditionally been ruled by a Countess (it was Aurefiction's old fiefdom) and is right next to your and my counties, which means we can easily make a Barony of the Northern Islands or something. Since I don't want to lead it, and since you're too busy, we can even make her Baroness and force her to start participating in stuff the hard way.Also, I just read a really interesting article last night giving evidence that the historical Cimmerians were the ancestors of the Celts of Britain and Ireland, so it would only be fitting to have them led by an Irishwoman.

First of all, from what I have heard the name Crimea comes from the Turkish word qyrmyr meaning "fortress" and dates back only to medieval times. The origin of the name Cimmeria itself is shrouded in mystery.But I was referring not to the origins of the Cimmerians but to the possibility that they migrated into Western Europe back in the early first millennium BC and combined with proto-Celtic cultures there to become the Celts. This is the legend told by some Celtic peoples, at least and the Welsh word for Welsh is "Cymry", which they claim derives from "Cimmerian".
