Shireroth based RPG...

Post by Kaiser Mors V »

So.... again.. I've decided to create an RPG system based in shireroth. Not for use in Shireroth.. but for my own gamer fun outside of it.. I've made some progress...

It's taking from Exalted (white wolf), DnD(Wizzards of the Coast) and Arcanum (Sierra)... and proly a few others I've played... and my own interests.

I get bored by the drugeries of combat and rolling.. EVERY FUCKING THING... so.. things just happen.. if you have the skill... you can do it... And the real challange is finding ways to mix and match skills to get to do what you want.. and convincing the GM that it makes sense...

BEHOLD.. some preliminary writings...

Shireroth RPG 2.0

Attributes
Strength: Physical strength, dead lift and used for damage.
Speed: run and movement speed, attack speed, swiftness.
Dexterity: agility, nimbleness, used for dodging and delicate hand movements, flexibility
Charisma: Social appeal, personal interaction
Intelligence: Intellectual prowess, logical ability, book learning, ability to learn new things.
Wits: Quick thinking, mental response to sudden events
Meta-Physical: Psychic ability, divine connection, paranormal powers.
Perception: five-Senses, awareness and ability to notice details. Used to augment ranged attacks.

Skill Levels
Ranked from 0-10 the Skill Levels dictate what skills you will have access to, based on your attributes. The 4 skill levels are Martial, Technological, Divine and Social. Each Skill Level has various areas that a character may choose as a focus at character creation and thus gain access to the level 10 skills in those focuses. A character may change focuses later on through roleplaying and experience, but will lose access to any level 10 skills they no longer have the focus for. This is not encouraged.
0: Innate ability found in all humans.
1-3: Basic skill level
4-6: Intermediate skill level
7-9: Expert skill level
10: Otherworldly and/or unique skill level

Martial Skill Level: (Strength + Speed) Based on strength and speed, the Martial Skill Level is a measure of the characters combat skills. The Focuses available for MSL are: Melee, Ranged, Thrown, Hand-to-Hand, Dodge and Parry.
Melee: ability with melee weapons
Range: ability to use bows, cross-bows and other ranged weapons.
Thrown: The ability to throw things that make a world of hurt. Daggers, axes.. if it hurts, you can throw it.
Hand-to-Hand: Punching, kicking, wrastling, karate-choping, or anything else where you use a part of your body as a weapon, you can use it.
Dodge: Swords, fists, rocks, and even bullets.. you can at least try to dodge them.
Parry: If you got something in your hands, you can use it to stop things from hitting you. And sometimes even get to strike back.

Technological Skill Level: (Dexterity + Intelligence) Based on the ability to work with small parts and one's own intellectual powers, the Technological Skill Level is a measure of the characters scientific and engineering ability. The ability to make and use technology falls within this area. The Focuses available for TSL are: Smithing, Chemistry, Engineering, Biology,
Smithing: The ability to create weapons and materials. Metallurgy and alloys.
Chemistry: The ability to make and mix chemicals. Explosives, and acids.
Engineering: Machines and devices. Steam engines and clockwork machines. Ever seen a mechanical bird fly?
Lore: Reading, writing, math, language, history.
Biology: Knowledge of life, Medicine and living systems.

Divine Skill Level: (Creativity + Meta-physical) Based on your creativity with prayers and your meta-physical connection to the gods and the universe, the Divine Skill Level is a measure of your influence with a particular god, or maybe even all of them. When choosing a focus in this skill level you may pick 1 god and have access to all skills in their domain but only gain access to skills of other gods up to level 3. As an alternative you may choose to seek the favor of all the gods, in consequence gaining access to any skill fromm any god up to level 5. The Focuses available for DSL are: Mors, Viviantia, Agni, Horjin, Eris, and Meskan.
Mors: The God of Death granting power to do harm
Viviantia: The Goddess of Life granting power to heal
Agni: The God of Fire granting power of the element of fire itself
Horjin: The Tiger-God of the Hunt granting power over animals and the wilderness
Ifni: The Goddess of Chance granting power of luck and fate.
Meskan: The God of Enlightenment granting power over the mind and heart.

Social Skill Level:(Charisma + Wits) Based on your charasm with people and your ability to think fast in a social situation, the Social Skill Level is a measure of your influence over others, and to interaction with other people. The Focuses available for SSL are: Lust, Love, Hate, Fear and Respect.
Lust: Sexual desire and skill. The ability to make yourself more appealing to others and more skilled in the art of love making, or seduction.
Love: The ability to make people love you, either as friends or in a romantic capacity, people will just like you more.
Hate: The ability to stir the emotions of others into the realm of hatred, either toward you or toward others. Hate is a powerful weapon, especially when used on yourself.
Fear: Fear is a powerful enemy, but you have conquered it, and bent it toward your will.
Respect: You may not be able to make people love or fear you, but you can make them respect and listen to you, whether it is just with good ideas, or the fire in the speeches you give, you can make them respect you.

...This would be fun to use among Tokians (since we're avid gamers for the most part)...

We could always try play-testing it for you...give you some outside criticism from across the continent...

This stuff looks good Erik. Your mini-rant at the start reminds me why I prefer the combat in Diplomacy to the combat in Risk... though frantic dice rolling does have its allure.

This does look interesting, and I'd be happy to help in its development in any way I can.

Interesting stuff. But why isn't B'Caw included in the pantheon of Gods? :no

*high five*
Finally, someone who understands! I find Risk incredibly tedious myself- Diplomacy truly is the game of Kings. Or Tsars, Presidents, Kaisers, or Sultans depending on who you play as ;)

I rewrote Risk with Fax many years ago...

B'Caw is not a major god.. I needed 5-6 major gods that covered different areas...

Mors
Viviantia
Horjin
Ifni
Meskan

All cover different things, and allow for things ranginf from healing magic, to mind-reading.. to the ability to talk to spirits... and the ability to be good at gambling...

Any chance I can guilt you into reviving MicroDiplomacy?

BURN IT!!!!! BURN IT ALL!...

*shrug*... seemed like the thing to say..

I'm having some trouble figureing out a challange system.. I was thinking for the cases when you need to roll it's just a D10 and you just have to roll below, or above your Skill Level or something...

That's the reason I really like this system called PDQ - it's really simple and good, and it's all about what skills (they're called Qualities) you choose. It puts the emphasis on the roleplaying, not the rules, but still has a strong enough structure so the GM is in control when he/she needs to be...
