So, Scott...
Every time I look at this thread (which I have, so far, done twice), I keep thinking that Erik and I should have returned and fixed the nation a month earlier - there's little that I would have loved to see more than you jumping ship a week before Shireroth suddenly springs back to life. I'm all nasty and cruel like that these days. Still, we've all got things to leave behind us, and I think you have an emigration, and a profession that all hope is lost, that it would be a good idea to just let go of.
Of course the future is still uncertain, and we're still not entirely stable, but then again this is Shireroth - we'll never be quite stable. I think we've at least shown some signs that this is something else than an obviously dead nation... and I believe you're a person whose promises we can count on.
Can we?

Scott,
I have your Shireroth shirt. And I might* consider giving it back if you come back.

Foghorn, I've been WONDERING what happened to that shirt! You might have said something sometime in, you know, the past three years. Not that I want it back now, of course. It's covered in Antican cooties. Heck, it's probably even touched Steven *shudder*
Ari, it's nice that you want me back, but I don't know if I'm really interested. For one thing, although Shireroth's pretty active now, I wouldn't say it's "meaningful"-ly so. I'm just not convinced that there's been any long-term addressing of the problems that made it falter the first time. The problem in the old days was that we'd set up a stable political system and there was nothing to do but endless work on writing culture and stuff, and that became less and less satisfying as the nation got more and more culture set into canon and untouchable (ask me about my problems with SSHIT sometime) and everyone just worked on their duchies by themselves. Last month, the political system and infrastructure were in a shambles and there was a lot of work to be done setting stuff right and assimilating all the new citizens and that kind of stuff. Now that that's mostly finished, I predict another gradual decline. I predict that once again the decline will be ignored because it would be inconvenient to do anything about it and an only-marginally-active Shireroth is seen as an acceptable outcome at high levels. Keep in mind that by saying this, I am blessing you with immortality, since my predictions about this sort of thing are always wrong.
For another, I think you were right when you said a few weeks ago people like me need to get lost and let some of the newer people have a chance. I'm almost sure if I were here my impact on the nation would be mostly negative - telling people they were doing things wrong, that they could never live up to the standards of Fax and Eoin and Jason and dStryker and the heroes of yore, that kind of thing.
I would claim that I'm leaving micronationalism forever, but I couldn't say it with a straight face and even if I managed you wouldn't believe it. So I'll come clean and say I'm working indefinitely on Operation Green Antlerfish (named after the Finnish coat of arms in the shrine, of course). This operation would be highly awkward if I were to be a citizen of Shireroth while performing it, which is most of the real reason I'm not involved (the stuff above was mostly me whining because you gave me an excuse to do so). If any of you happen to know what it is, which is unlikely as I haven't given clues to anyone except sorta Benkern in a convo on the MCS we had last week, please don't tell. Don't worry, it's not another resurrection of Audentior...though that gives me an idea!
I'll try to hang around here more and harass people who get history wrong, or some other traditional pasttime of cranky micronational veterans. Certainly I'll stop off at Andreas' temple to Sakat when he finishes it.

Re: So, Scott...
You know.. the only point of contention I have with Scott is his issues with SSHIT... There actually isn't that much in canon... Though even then.. I have been pondering the point he's trying to make about everything becoming static...
