Military
I am curious to know why there isn't a military in shrieroth. I mean most other micronations have one, why not once again work on one here in Shireroth?
I would be personally interested in working on one myself, if no-one else would like to take such leadership.

Darkness will rein over the eternal abyss
I think you might be missing something.
The Ministry of Military Affairs is pretty much the oldest (and probably largest) military organisation on Micras. It's not so active at the moment, but Shireroth isn't so active, so its understandable. It seems that the current citizens aren't too interested in it just this minute.
I believe the confusion lies in the empty category "Military", which I've never seen any boards in myself. Maybe there are some there, hidden, but I don't see why they should be when the Ministry of Military Affairs does it well enough. Although you'd need to ask a more experience user on these boards (*nudge* hypatia's mom *nudge*).

I have been a citizen of this country only about 2 years, and active for slightly more than one. While I appreciate the compliment, I have never personally been involved in military affairs, though my barony was once the site of an invasion from another duchy, and was defended by the other duchies. We do have a military, but, as was stated, it is inactive right now. The former Minister of Military Affairs was Gman Russell. I am not sure who holds the title at the moment.
Our first concern, as far as I am concerned, is reestablishing a vibrant national life again, and reactivating the rich fictional history on which Shireroth's national heritage depends. Unfortunately, most of the founders, and those who set up our nation, have departed micronations altogether, and those of us who remain are losing our history. One cause of this was the hacking of our site on the old forum address, and the loss of most of our posts. We have also lost the Shirewiki, including our Lawbook and list of Imperial Decrees, which we are attempting to resurrect.
All you new citizens are encouraged to imagine into being a new culture for your counties, and work together on projects that can enrich our culture once again.

I'm Preator and I can't enter the Landsraad. One of our current problems are that there isn't an active admin
From a distance I'm concerned about the rampant lawyerism manifesting itself in Shireroth currently. A simple Kaiserial slap on the wrist or censure by the community should suffice. - Jacobus Loki

We used to be a massive military might... but.. that ended.. when war became obsolete...
How do you attack an enemy who you can't really truly get too... only their online presence.... and how do you wage war on that? Spam? ezboard security got good enough that spam wasn't a threat anymore, and the same kinda pertains to here... there is no page 20 limit... Hacking? even more illegal then spam... traceable.. and not really easy. And if they have a good password... impracticable.. Further.. Shireroth has always been to honorable to stoop to that level of malevolence... Smiley Bomb? Net connections and browsers getting good made that obsolete...
How do you fight a war when there are no weapons?
Recwars? How do you fight a recwar with a real enemy... when you could never agree on who won? Recwars only work between friends... which is kinda silly.
So... is it any surprise that the Military is defunct?
And.. when was the last time anyone...anywhere, truly wages war on another?
War evolved into espionage, when direct assault became impracticable.
This is why... we have no military anylonger.. Not from a lack of desire for one.. but from the lack of practicality for one.

Micronationalism got more "mature" and that kinda stuff is, not only as you say much harder, but looked down upon. I think that anything that risks Shireroth being looked down upon isn't a good move. The days of the Smiley Bomb and the Spam Cannon are over.Erik Mortis Brookshire wrote:We used to be a massive military might... but.. that ended.. when war became obsolete...

Military in micronationalism is almost solely devoted to RecWars these days. Shireroth can still be what you describe as a "massive military might" (nice alliteration), perhaps not in the same way - but if SNARL is woken up, and Shireroth and its friends can show people how RecWars are really done, not only will Shirerithian militarism and patriotism be reborn but also the prestige (which should follow Shireroth around anyway) from either winning or simply fighting well in these wars would bring attention to the micronation.
From an optimist's point of view.

Of course. They're not designed for actual conflicts between micronations. I was responding to the fact that you were pretty much saying Shireroth is no longer a military power and never would be.
Real conflicts... they most likely these days would be solved through discussion, either on forums or via IM. Although alot of the time, they aren't solved at all, and bad blood just hangs around.

Well, they look good in parades. Those who enjoy recwars can have a good time.
We are fortunate being the home of DSSI and a regular shore leave stop of the Starship "Improvise".
As far as "real" war in micronationry. Eirk has pointed out that most of the things one can do to actually injure another MN are illegal by macronational law. One might engage in such if he/she were a rabid secessionist, but such would most likely ignore other Mn's. This way lies danger, and possibly RL prison or lesser sanctions, depending.
Civil wars fought within a community are common, and guerrilla war is fairly simple to keep restrained, but either is usually settled quickly or dies out due to lack of interest. If this doesn't happen, it can drag on for an inderterminable length of time.
Micronationry has learned what Macronationry is still learning. War doesn't really work, unless one is willing to risk destruction.
As far as Recwars go, hey, war games have been around for a long time and can be a lot of fun.

Jonas--
There is one small problem with hacking another micronation's account: you will probably end up being prosecuted, and could possibly end up in jail. It is not a path you want to tread. Please forget you even suggested it.
One of the reasons Shireroth has lost most of its fictional history is that a little over a year ago most of the countries which had their fora on EZBoard got hacked, and almost everything disappeared without a trace. We couldn't reconstruct most of it, and had to start from scratch again. That is also why we moved from EZBoard to our present server.

Don't understand me wrong! I'm not for hacking, I hate it when people do that. I said it because our new (Holy) Kaiser was saying that we can't kill people.
