'ello folks. I've been rather busy lately and just came back. I also locked myself out repeatedly because I typoed my password, then consequently went through plenty others before coming to the conclusion, "Damnit, I'm sure it was that one," and being right. D'oh.
Anyway, since this is my o-o-o-old laptop, IE's settings are pretty tight-reigned and I like to forget to set my sites to trusted so I can accept cookies. So I tried to login, managed (finally), and was, though, unfortunately logged out on the next page. Still, it rendered "View posts since your last visit" useless.
So I tried to search for all posts in the past month manually. But, despite clearly seeing markers like "Yesterday" on the forum index, it gave me "no results", too.
Does anyone know what might be up there? I searched for * as the message text, * as the author, set the time dropdown to the aforementioned 1 month, asked it to display posts and not topics - and nada. I'll take a look if anything else is borked, later, or if it's even some sort of weird caching setting; unfortunately, for now, I have to run off to work.
Edit - since this was bugging me most, I made sure it was reloading the page properly at all costs and tried again; still not coming up with anything; so at least it isn't a caching issue.
Edit II - taking out the * in author makes no difference, either, but changing the searchword to "sure" brings up this post and two others. So I'm left thinking * isn't supported - though this surprises me because I could swear I've done it before on other phpBBs.
But, I did a quick double-check with another board, and there a wildcard search doesn't work, either.
Frustrating! Though I'm now left wondering why I had that impression in the first place.
Does anyone have a solution as to how I can look at last month's posts all on one page with the search tool?

It seems that our mangoes are out of order. I have to read the fora manually, as well. I'm not sure what happened, but the admin is down and the website isn't functioning as it should. It isn't you, believe me. btw, it's good to have you back. We've missed you. Also, you always come up with good suggestions to make things work more smoothly. Thanks.

*has a strange moment of Huh? because she just got up and could have sworn what hypatias mom wrote was in fact by Gman... but that's of course just the sign of a failing mind. Well, that, and, it might have been the initial statement about the mangoes, which just seems so... Gman.*
I'm clearly very confused. *taken aback*
Actually, I have no clue what's up with the lack of new post markers. I do know that I was never able to "stay logged in" on this phpBB, but I did get markers... <tech-babble> still, it seems like a bit of a cookie issue. Maybe the board cookie settings are off by a notch, and some parts of phpBB are coded to be more robust/tolerant in regards to those settings (being logged in in the first place, for a session) than others (new post markers, permanent logging in)?
O-o-or, the site tries to use permanent and session cookies simultaneously, in parallel (not unheard of), and the permanent cookie gets lost. Though why the new post markers would be in the permanent cookie, I've absolutely no idea. </tech-babble>
I think that was the most eloquent way I've ever said, "Um, I dunno?"
*not having an answer, gives hugs instead*
I just noticed I have no new post markers anymore! Cry. (Unlike last time, I was properly logged in from the first page load this time.) Ho-hum.hypatias mom wrote:It seems that our mangoes are out of order. I have to read the fora manually, as well.
Hah. Rumours. You might've missed me, but what about everyone else? *sage nod as though she's dealing out enlightenment*hypatias mom wrote:btw, it's good to have you back. We've missed you.

Don't worry, it was I, myself, writing that post. Our forum seems just to be limping along, just barely working. We have even lost important documents when the Wiki went down, such as our lawbook and roster of Imperial Decrees. I'm not sure who even knows how to fix all this mess right now, because the passwords for the administrators seem also to be lost, and we can't seem to fix the forum without them. We may have to reformat the entire mess and make it run well again. Your suggestions are more incisive than most I've read.
And, yes, you have definitely been missed, and thanks for the hugs. btw, I miss talking with you on AIM as well. Hope things are going well with Dark Arcadia.

If things are too broken to function (and the lack of new post markers seems like something that would kill a forum to me)... my offer of hosting a phpBB for your guys still stands.
Unfortunately, I can't help with the lost wiki information, after all. The host made no backups to allow temporary retrieval, I assume? If the big E doesn't know if that's the case, just as a head's up, he ought to ask; some webhosts do that, so if your domain accidentally expires, the data isn't lost.

Concerning lost information, you might want to try Hypatia. An old discussion at the Landsraad front gates:
Delphi:
Delphi:
Hypatia Agnesi:I think someone should also be responsible for keeping all active laws in .txt files on their HDs. Maybe more than one person. Just in case of disaster.
Worth a try? She is Ner Niftiness the Kaiser, after all. She might be able to help save Shireroth from it's big problem. The pages might be out of date (and quite out of date - January 2006) but it's something, isn't it?I have old text files of the lawbook/charter and procedures, but I would be willing to back up the pertinent wiki pages in text file weekly or so, just to safeguard it.
