As I seem to often say, I have been reading. Due to the apparent delapidated state of this nation, I made it a point to search out the reason for the current situation. And once again, I find myself looking upon the design, but at this point, the reason behind the design. And it is now, that I directly go for the heart of the matter, and begin to deconstruct the old design, so that a new one may be created.
The history of this nation is riddled with conflicts of change against tradition. Whether to change, or to remain the same, has been the center of this nations most heated debates. Some changes, trivial in nature. Other, massive in their implications. But always, change versus no change.
Now, I recognize, that not all change is good change. But not all tradition, is good tradition. Not all things should remain unchanged. The very design we employ right now is an example of a disfunctional current system, resistant to change.
And so I went to wondering, what has happened. This nation is in stasis. The greatest sin one can commit. Statis. Atrophy. Stagnation. Death.
I blaim the very goals on which this nation was founded, for its own potential demise. Sources state that this nation was built upon a goal of stability, among other things. And while this goal is indeed admirable, I believe it was misapplied. And instead of stability, we got stasis. Though stability was attained.
For this, I will, with no reservation, be willing to lay the blaim on a single individual. That person would be the very founder of this nation himself. In his searching quest for stability, he misunderstood his own goal. Instead of stability, he sought statis. And with ruthless zealotry, stamp out all that would oppose the stability he sought.
Now, things were not always thus. History shows that there have been many times of radical change to the nation. Occasionally, ironically, brought by the founders own hand. But, over time changes ended, as a search became a crusade. Now this nation stands on the brink of oblivion.
But yet, not all is lost. The goal itself has merit, but must be reinterpreted. Stability can mean many things. For the founder, it led him to a crusade of stasis, whether this was his aim or not, only he could say. Stability can also simply mean unity.
In the history of this nation, as opposed to others I have skimmed, there has never once been a true, successful rebellion in this nation, nor break away group. There have been toy rebellions, and staged events for entertainment. Dispite toil and conflict, this nation has always remained whole. And perhaps this is a testament to the stability that was sought out.
And it is here, that I believe is our future. Not in the stasis of the past. But, in the unity of the future. We must once again, embrace change and experimentation, but retain the symbols that unite us as a nation, and as a people. For if nothing else, symbols are the most powerful unifying force in the human universe. Symbols give us something to rally behind, something to fight for, something to believe in. Symbols are what make us what we are.
It is now time to shed the defunct, dogmatic thinking of the old design which has led us into stasis. We must now embrace change, and growth in a new design, grander than the last. We must do so however, with full reverence to the symbols that unite us. And in our very core remain united as a people and nation.
And we must remember: Stasis is death. But a united effort toward growth, is life.
