Some Northhold Business

Post by Ryan »

It occurs to me that Northhold may be somewhat obsolete.

Bjorngard is a tiny county. Comstokia is obsolete. Otherwise we just have Hyperborea and Cimmeria tagged onto the package, in which neither of them is anything happening.

And now that Lac Glacei is up-and-running, it may be pertinent to focus more on that area where there is more promise for development.

So the question is - what to do with Northhold?

John is no longer around. Ophiuchus(sp?) isn't active. I'm fiddling around with Bjorngard in my spare time. Scott is busy with school and obviously can't do anything with Hyperborea.

So should it be incorporated into one of the other duchies, or maybe attached to Lac Glacei and we modify that state's connection to Shireroth? Or what?

Why don't you and I become a Barony and merge with Elwynn into a Duchy?

Actually, what Scott suggested is a good idea. Would bring back memories of the old Hyperborea-Elwynn relations, no?

Then do something on your own! You don't need to wait for someone to initiate productivity - you can do it yourself.

Well, there has been the whole college-exams thing as well...

I know you're right, my initiative level has just been low recently - as has everyone's, it appears, though that looks like it's changing now.

Ryan, you decide whether you or Ric want to be Duke and I can try drawing up a feudal contract for ratification.

Ric can be Duke.

I'm quite content with being Count of Bjorngard, plus I'm already Grand Duke of Lac Glacei. No sense in hogging titles.

The Duchy of Northhold-Elwynn? It sounds like the name of one of those old German principalities...if you have any descendants, they can take that as the name of their house, and then nobody will know what their real sunames are (just like Victoria & Albert, and 2/3 of the rest of the European royalty)!

If it was something like that, IMO it should include Hyperborea in the name, rather than Northhold.

How about just keeping it as Northhold? Northhold was originally just a placeholder name for a union of a lot of cultures (Hyperborea, Bjorngard, Comstokia, etc), and we ARE in the north, and it IS being held. Plus then we wouldn't need to make another banner.

Eluriath - Land Under the Stars in Quenya.

Or... drawing on visions of northerly lights... call it Auroraborea.

And I never liked the name Northhold to begin with. :P

Exactly, Northhold doesn't sound good and by keeping Northhold's name, it would feel as if Elwynn is being annexed to Northhold rather than merged with another barony.

But, Northhold is the most neutral name...

Quitea dilemma

It still sucketh. :P

What about an Austro-Hungarian type title?

Like The Boreal-Elwynnese Duchy or something?

And we can say Boreal because, in all actuality, the mythical cultures of Bjorngard and Cimmeria are both intertwined with that of Hyperborea.

Scott doesn't seem to be willing to write something up so I took the liberty to draft a contract. It's really short but whatever :-P

CONTRACT

1.
The Barony of Elwynn and the Duchy of Northhold shall henceforth be bound in a union styled the Boreal-Elwynnese Duchy (BED).

2.
Upon passage of this Contract, the baronies of Northhold shall cease to exist, and Northhold itself shall cease to be a duchy and will instead form a barony under Ryan Caruso.

3.
The Duke of BED shall be Ric Lyon (Andelarion).

Hmm.

Perhaps there should be a sort of "default" contract.
By my hand,
His Niftiness, Meskan, Second of the Name, Kaiser of Shireroth, Overlord of the Duchies of Kildare, Naudia’Diva, and Northold, Overlord of the Baronies of Elwynn and Vorpmadal, Thane of the Shirelands, Keeper of the Apollo Legacy, Grand Master of the Orders of the Dragon, Griffin, Phoenix, and Chimera, Wielder of Vengeance, Count of Shirekeep, Knight Companion of the Most Magnificent Imperial Order of the Sovereign Viking Crown, and Lord of the Golden Mango Throne.
