An idea: A form of lesser citizenship
Just an idea I've come up with.
Namely, it would be to help solve the "problem" for some people who desire to no longer be active within the nation's activities, but still wants to be considered a Shirerothian.
I'm not sure about the name. Perhaps Denizen, even though it's technically used already. This is different from Honorary citizenship in that it is voluntary and not a reward, but the premise is sort of similar. Say, something like this:
- A citizen who desires to become volentarily inactive can become a Denizen.
- A denizen may not hold any office.
- A denizen may not become a Count, although ze might be given priority over a given county if ze wants to become a citizen again.
- People who have been citizens of Shireroth in the past, but are currently not citizens, may become a denizen at any time.
- A denizen still has to abide by the laws of Shireroth.
- Exception: A denizen does not have to follow the dual citizenship laws, as he is not a citizen.
- A denizen can become a citizen again at any time if he meets the requirements for citizenship.
- A citizen may become a denizen for one of the two options:
* Emmigration and not saying that ze does not want denizenship. (If the citizens is forcibly removed, ze cannot obtain denizenship)
* Not filling out the census in time. Citizens are no longer removed from the country if they do not fill out the census, but become denizens. They do not count as citizens, but can still be counted in the census.
- All emmigrated citizens who want to claim denizenship must have the approval of MINT.
There's a problem with this, of course. There's no way to enforce it (nor should there be) or encourage it. Foreigners and former citizens would be just in the same position, and can still chat and the like. However, I think this is a meaningful way to get a symbolic form of the position "I may have left Shireroth for whatever reason, but I still consider myself Shirerothian, and may still chat here from time to time." This way people can stay retired without actually emmigrating.
What do you guys think of this idea? I know it may be unneccessary, but I think it's a good idea to implement nevertheless.
And yes, I know this is less of a priority than the voting is, but I want to discuss it anyway.

Either you're a citizen, or you're not... I don't like this in-between thing.

I like this ideabecause of Shireoth's size and the love it's people have, even when they can no longer be around much, it is important to have something along these lines If you feel an icy chill...the Conglacio is amongst you

I agree with Ric.. I can just feel ways this could be misused or just be plain confusing.... or simply not even used.. E. Metzler (UEC)Duke of Brookshire"Never use a BOO/\/\ist as a diplomat" -- GSClicky Clicky..., Tiss for your own good ya know.

With this people like Jacobus coudl sign up, and then since they are under the protection of Shirerithian law, whenever he gets entangled in a foreign government we have to bail them out because they are under our jurisdiction.

except that the MINT would be unlikly to give Jacobus status as a lesser citizen If you feel an icy chill...the Conglacio is amongst you

"- People who have been citizens of Shireroth in the past, but are currently not citizens, may become a denizen at any time."implies that they don't need permission from the MiniImNat. E. Re: An idea: A form of lesser citizenship
then change that.next to the emigration form, you have a denizening form, which you can fill out instead If you feel an icy chill...the Conglacio is amongst you
Re: An idea: A form of lesser citizenship

I still thinkt hat this is a good idea. Perhaps I'll add something about needing permission from MINT for former citizens that have emmigrated before the bill is passed to prevent abuse of citizens who had been pretty much kicked out. We could also add a clause to say that citizens who are forcibly kicked out cannot gain denizenship as well.
It would be more powerful if we had a bill of rights, but we all know that is easily abused.
I know sort of pointless, but it's legislature and gives options to people. Currently people who do not post in the Census lose their citizenship; might be better to allow this for easier reimmigration into Shireroth once that citizen decides to come back.

i think with a bit of tweaking this idea would be excellent.
but i also agree with some of the past arguments that its hard enough to fill positions with actual citizens without throwing kind of citizens in the mix...

Normally, by the time I've read an immigration request,so many people have posted either their support or disgust that the decision is easy to make.
