While I write this, it strikes me as just a bit morbid (ok, VERY morbid). I suppose that this letter will reflect me at my most vain - since I trust no one else to say what needs to be said. I hope that everyone will bear with me and forgive what may seem to be a rather semi-retarded final statement to the Micronational Community.
Seems like I've been mucking about on Micronations now for half a lifetime, when it's really only been a couple of years. In retrospect, just a couple of years nearly puts me in the same grouping as those who are now seen as "old hands" to the hobby. In today's society of short attention spans and mass inability to follow through with anything, I reckon those who do stick to it for a year or more have certainly proven their determination. At times, this Sector has been a difficult one to call home. Petty bickering, infighting, and just a touch of international intrigue seemed to be in abundant supply. In the end, it fuels the soul, and keeps us all interested. At least that's how it was for me. Even the "negative" events which occurred during my time were somehow enjoyable; Coralia and just about every other attempt by "Redstone"; my mini-feud with the woman commonly called "Lauverman"; being lightly abused by a certain King; behind-the-scenes heated arguments in Zemlya with Kevin and sometimes Chris; The Antican Split...just to name a few. Those moments, while sometimes trying on my patience and disposition as a "nice guy", went far to keep me glued to the hobby; I was always thrilled to see what happened next.
For the most part, I have sincerely loved my time in Micronations, and more specifically, the Micras Sector. I count many of you as true friends, and hope these feelings are reciprocated (I actually know that they are, just some mock modesty there). I've decided that the best way to handle this, is to make statements to each of the people who have meant the most to me. If you're not mentioned, it doesn't mean I didn't like you, etc - just means that either I am hopped up on morphine and therefore my brain is mush (which is mostly true), or I've said things to you in person prior to this.
August Charles: We were thick as thieves, you and I. You welcomed me into the hobby and showed me the ropes. You gave me direction, and provided more than enough opportunities for me to show my worth. Thanks to you, I was able to branch out and participate rather heavily in a number of places. I'm not sure what happened to us, mate. My guess is that you got angry with me because I left Gotzborg at the same time I left other nations I was in at the time. I wish you could have just spoken up and said so. Life is simply too damn short to let something that petty ruin what was once a great friendship. And if you're reading this, then you are well aware of that. No regrets, my friend. There's always been a place in my heart just for you and Carol. Best of luck to you and the other Gotzers. (remember you promised to name a Duchy after me lol)
Wheelchairman: What can I say?? You were one of the very few in this Sector to provide true entertainment. It was always fun to watch you work, and our friendship is highly valued by me. All those chats over Skype with Tizz - you know full well how happy those times made me, and what they meant to me. You two always did the best job of anyone I know making me completely forget that I'm sick. I felt normal around you guys, and I'll forever love you for that.
Delphi: Despite half (if not more) of the Micronational World thinking that you are a dick, I adore you! But you knew that already. While I was sick, you made sure to keep in touch. You kept my wife company in your own way, and your friendship with her, I have no doubt, is something that will continue on for a very long time. You're "Uncle Dan" - to hell with what anyone else thinks about you.
Ardashir: Next to Zemlya in it's hey day, Babkha was the absolute most fun!!! I am sure that everyone knows by now that I was the Sultan of Hatay (on and off anyway, not full-time). Not really a secret since I knew anyone with half a brain would have figured it out, but I wasn't advertising the fact, either. When I think back on the short time I was there, I realise that there was a hefty portion of the time that I wasn't even doing anything, but letting John do it (when I was hospitalised, feeling uber-icky, etc). Hard to tell when it was me, or when it was him. But no matter! Thanks for being a great friend. The card you sent me with the camel on the front (and the upside-down writing on the inside) is one of the few things that I've told Angel to bury me with...no shit - it meant that much to me. I know I am going to miss our chats, and most especially our plotting to take over the world! MUHAHA!! (hehe)
Nate: You're one of the smartest, and most compassionate young men I've ever known. Natopia was a great place for me to hang out, and not feel like I had to work my ass off to make anyone happy with me. I've enjoyed our friendship, and appreciate how well you've kept in touch with me while I was pretty much MIA from the entire Sector. My best wishes - God Bless.
Harald: You are, without doubt, the nicest and most benevolent leader in all of Micronationalism. I would challenge anyone to come up with someone who is as giving and kind hearted. Just as I told you the last time we spoke, should Chloe participate in any Micronation, it will be Stormark. There's no better place for her to belong. I trust you and the others to be good to her and treasure her nearly as much as I do. Thank you for your warmth and kindness. Know that your many gifts never went unappreciated.
Tasneem: As my only Muslim friend in Micronations, I feel we had a special bond. Some people are aware, but most didn't know that my family and I are Muslim. I know that you wont listen to me, because you never do about such things - but you are hella smart, beautiful, strong, and I know with all I am that you are going to accomplish many great things with your life. As Muslims, we know that my passing is a time of great joy and celebration. My body has been broken for some time now, and my spirit finally has the freedom I pray I truly deserve.
Olorix: You were one of my first real friends in Micronationalism. I am really glad that's how it worked out. Our talks into the wee hours of the morning (for me anyway) must have touched on every single subject possible. It was amazing (and sometimes disturbing!) how off-track we could get, and how unusual a conversation could end up. I think our brains work in a similar fashion, which was why we never really sat back and thought "what the fu-- are we talking about...and HOW did we get on this topic???" hehe I hope that you and the Republic of Antica are blessed with a long and prosperous life.
Alexandra: Save the best for last and all that, right?Boy did we get off to a really rocky start!! I damn near hated you for a long time there. I even considered sending spies into your various nation-projects to help ruin them! But you know all that now. It's utterly amazing how we turned our relationship around completely, and became great buddies. I'm happy that I got to know the REAL you, not just the uber-bitch I had myself convinced you were. Your inner beauty is unmatched, and I know that someday who you are outside will reflect who I know you are inside. Take care of yourself, sweetie.
If I've forgotten anyone (and I am certain I have), you're going to have to forgive me. If this is being read, then I've died, so consider that a last request, ok? All right all right, bad joke - but I am not deleting it!! My sincere apologies to anyone I've mistreated during my Micronational career. Please understand that it was almost never personal (there are actually only 2 exceptions to that, and they know who they are). I'm grateful for the time I was allowed with you all. I hope the Sector survives for a long time to come - after all, my daughter is a Crown Princess!! I'd like to think that she gets to make her claim on that in about 6 years or so. That's your challenge, Micras! From me to you - keep at least Stormark alive for another 6 years so Chloe can run up and show you all what sort of smartass genes she inherited from her father!
I'd like to end this all with some sort of clever statement, but one's not coming to me. If I am popular enough for you all to want a nifty quote (last words of a fashion) for the papers, etc - use this:
We have it on good authority that Rob Davis was a bastard
