Upcoming ideas

Post by Rarkasha »

I plan to revolutionize the perception of the Shireithian Military, or at least make Alexandretta a powerful technological presence. While this is a rather large goal, I'm sure I'll at least make an impression. I'd like the see designs move towards more towards the possible, but not necessarily towards what already exists. I like fantastical ideas more than anyone else, and I love to blend realism and the impossible together (hell, I wanted to build airships the size of skyscrapers), but when it comes to recwarring, I'd rather use realistic ideas. Otherwise fights might grow into rediculous god-modding of ever larger or more powerful units.

That's not to say I'm trying to tell you guys what to do. I'll just putter out my ideas and if you like em, keep em. Even better, if you like em, buy em. As soon as we get an economy. Cough cough.

And I'd like to use some unrealistic elements too. Ever played Ace Combat 5? Submarines that shot unmanned aircraft along with ballistic missiles, space plane with lasers, etc. Yet all within the realm of possiblity, and not necessarily "sci-fi" either.

Anyhow, this page isn't about ranting, it's about the development of ideas until I can finish them. Some may be partially done, others might not even have names. I'll keep tweaking them as they come to me.

*Recoiless Rifles

Recoiless rifles are fairly simple to design, actually. But I like them, and I wanted to discuss their use here. Note that a recoiless rifle isn't actually recoiless. It just has a lot less recoil than it should for a bullet that big. For information on how a recoiless rifle works, visit wikipedia. Recoiless rifles are comparable to a Bazooka in shape, but have the power of a light cannon. Like a Bazooka or a RPG, however man portable recoiless rifles are fairly easy to handle compared to the amount of damage they do. The best modern use for them is to mount them in places where heavy weaponry is needed, but not for extreme ranges (recoiless rifles don't shoot as far as a comparable cannon, but much farther than a RPG), and the weaponry must not have much recoil. Such as on a jeep, you can mount a 105 mm recoiless rifle, though admittedly it's a little cumbersome. Or when you need an anti-armor turrent. Also, because of the lack of recoil, you can use multiple recoiless rifles on a tank, such as the Ontos tank, which used six 106mm recoiless rifles to great effect. While outdated in comparison to newer missile anti-tank technology, the possiblities are intruiging

*Close Air Support Jet

There's nothing like kicking back and letting the flyboys pull a little CAS. The best example of a CAS jet is the A-10 Thunderbolt II, also known as the Warthog. It exemplifies what a CAS plane should have. Large straight wings for low altitude manuverability, more lift, and a larger payload. Rugged design that is capable of flying with one wing and one engine with triple redundancy and armored casing of the cockpit. And last but not least, the largest aircraft gun ever known: a 30 mm gatling gun that shoots depleted uranium anti-armor shells (and yes, that is impressive for a plane, and no, adding "depleted uranium" is not there to make it sound cooler). I mean... it's a gatling gun... that shoots tanks... Not only that, but the gun is so powerful it produces enough kenetic force that is a little more than half the total kenetic force produced by both engines. I want that gun.

*Multipurpose jet

"The Jack of all trades is the master of none" While this is true, a multipurpose craft can have a special role. Yes, that is contradictory, but hear me out. Multipurpose aircraft are used on aircraft carriers, for example, where plane numbers are lower but the number of capabilities they must perform are the same. Also, they're cheaper then sending a larger (and thus more expensive) number of specialized aircraft to places where the amount of air superiority needed is not very high (remoter airbases). Like the CAS jet, I have no idea of a name or even the shape, but I'm pointing the necessity as a reminder to myself.

This is where I stop for now. If you have any suggestions, please, go ahead.

I like it, and yes, I'm familier with the planes mentioned :)

For a good example of an all-purpose jet, take a look at the F-16 Falcon.

Oh yes, the F-16. Over 4000 in existance, so they must have done something right.

By the way:

*Possible Evil Plan

Build powerful ballistic missiles, and then build powerful air defense systems, and sell the latter to other micronations.

Most likely not able to work as ballistic missiles may be deemed improper by other micronations, and they would simply ignore use of them.

*AWACS (Airborne Warning and Control System)

Any respectable modern air fighting force has them. Simple in concept, too: A large modified commercial passenger jet with a powerful radar system. Capable of providing radar info for other planes so that they can operate in radar silence. The only downside of an AWACS (perhaps other than the cost of keeping them in the air, since they tend to fly often and long) is that they're more or less defenseless, and the nature of radar leaves them able to be detected at twice their own radar range.
