How do I set up a phpbbs database?

Post by Ryan »

Anyone?

C'mon! Somebody here has got to know!

I got the phpbbs all uploaded like the instructions say, and now I want to add a MySQL database. Apparently I can do this, as according to my package deal I can have 10 MySQL databases on my server.

The question is: How?

The instructions on this pbpbbs suck. Anyone with background knowledge who can help will get... um... well I'm not kissing you unless you're a girl. So I'll send you some microwaveable popcorn as a reward instead. :P

Those databases...databii..whatever, aren't set up through the phpBB interface. You have to set them up ahead of time with your control panel that your package comes with... then you use that information when setting up phpBB.

Aye, I kinda figured that out. But I'm not quite sure how to set one up. Apparently I can either download the MySQL software from MySQL and do it that way, or I can let the service I use (GoDaddy) do it for me. I'm not sure which is correct or, for that matter, how to set the bloody thing up.

*waves fist at lousy instruction manual*

It should be buried somewhere within whatever control panel you use to manage your site.

Yep... though perhaps you should try actually downloading the mysql software, and compiling and running it. The mail you'd get from your sysadmin would be interesting ;).
