Seriously, though, I'm happy I got that good of a score on my first try. Think I should retake them next year?

I got a 1320 as a sophomore and hoped to take it again junior and senior year to (hopefully) get somewhere over 1400. As many who know me can imagine, that didn't happen. I left high school sophomore year and later transferred to UCSB, no SAT scores required.

Well I'm not sure whether colleges look at your highest score or your most recent one. I could get a lower score and not get this one counted, depending on how it goes.

Here in Alabama we don't take the SATs, we take the ACT in addition to beating our wives, drinking beer, and going bowling each night. Each time I took the ACT, my score got higher. I finally got 30/36, got in college, which was the goal, and am scared to take it again because I know it'll go down.

The only thing I took that came in was an SAT II US History, on which I got an 800. I got an 800 on the SAT II World History too. My strategy is to ace or do well on every SAT II possible in order to booast my rather meager GPA, due to my laziness. (Bio 740, Chem 700, PSAT: 2090).

Almost every good college requires you take SAT IIs. Almost all the ones I've looked into have. And ...............get a lot of 5s on your AP exams.

And yes, they do, but not every one, just certain ones. Although if you like taking lots of tests...

There's AP, which my school didn't offer, and then there's dual-credit. My high school contracted out to a nearby college to offer dual-credit. The dual-credit classes are taught by teachers at your high school who have some level of qualification, so it is easier and you are in a more familiar environment. My personal experience with English 101 and 102 Dual-Credit was basically that I'm glad I didn't do AP or take them in college (knowing now what college classes are like).

Just because I feel like writing on the subject, here's an overview of higher-education in Alabama....

In Alabama there is a very good college system, contrary to what you might believe because of your Hollywood or cultural biases. There are three colleges in the state that are absolutely great. Also there are the community colleges, which are okay. I attend University of Alabama Huntsville, known for the space program and science in general. The University of Alabama Birmingham is the best medical school in the country, perhaps the world, and people from all over go there. Possibly due the southern location and associated hospital thereof, it is often the place where college football players get their injuries fixed, for lack of a proper medical term, and when some of these guys turn pro, that's where they return to get further treatment. The University of Alabama (Tuscaloosa) is one of the best business schools in the nation and perhaps the world.

(The community colleges were established by Gov. George C. Wallace in the 1960s and 1970s. Although the man was a racist in the 1960s before he relented his racist ilk in the 1970s, Wallace was a typical Democrat, in favor of vast social programs. His son, who is running for Lt. Gov this year as a Republican, also a tendency towards social concern. The community college system was a good attempt at educating the Alabama backwaters. They are in just about every medium-sized city in the state, and offer classes at low tuition. They are only two-year colleges. Also, because the community colleges cater to older adults seeking higher education because they worked in a factory for years, for example, the classes at community colleges in Alabama are, in general, easier than at a four-year college. Going to a four-year college has been a challenge for me, but that is the way I wanted it because I know I'm going to need the skills to manage large amounts of technology, information and people.)

You know, a recent study posted on Slashdot.com said that there's only a 50-50 chance of picking out what the intended tone of a post is, and the failure to accurately recognize the tone is often the start of many flamewars.

When I do it, I like to do it with not just one but a pear. You know Granny Smith? She's ripe, certainly not overripe. Lettuce love is my mantra, although since I live in Alabama I sometimes do smack my peach up.
