Abdication
I got a few applications for the Kaisership, far less than I was expecting to, actually--apparently people like me on the Throne. Imagine that.
Eventually it came down to two applications, Bill's and Erik's.
Now there's a decision. Bill's talked of cleanup of the old stuff and working in of new stuff, talked of dedication to his jobs, talked of what he's done for Shireroth.
Erik's spoke of things that needed to be done, things that weren't necessarily going to be popular but were necessary for the survival of the nation.
It was a difficult decision, let me tell you.
I finally made my decision when I realized how much of what Bill would like to do could be done outside of the Kaisership. I believe he will be an excellent candidate in the future (perhaps even after this coming Kaisership, should the gods will it), and I am very disappointed to say that I'm not giving the position to him.
Some of you might say he has the "diplomatic skills of a random rock." True. But so do I, and that's exactly what a Minister of the Exterior is for. Others might speak of Bill's democratic tendencies. I spoke with him on this, and he understands that, even though he prefers a democratic model, it's not what Shireroth is.
Erik has been here since this nation began, and he knows Shirithian law better than pretty much anyone. Unfortunately, this gives him the tendency to tick people off inadvertently when he tells them something's illegal.
Erik may be arrogant, but it's not because he doesn't like you: it's because he's concerned with the welfare of the nation as a whole, instead of the individual citizen--a method I attempted to steer away from during my reign, but did myself in some cases.
((PS: Everything I did during my reign was legal, thanks to Imperial Decree #103. But that's another point.))
Erik also plans to do things that no one else on the Throne could realistically do. Therefore, I name my heir Erik Mortis Brookshire, and step down from the Imperial Throne of Shireroth.
Don't worry, my subjects: I shall return. I am the avatar of resurrection, after all.
By my hand,

I thought it was obvious.
I thought I could devote myself to this nation. I was literally excited this past week. I couldn't sleep, not only for my own ideas, but the fear that Erik would become Kaiser. My fears are legitimate - We hate each other politically and do not come into agreement with anything, the past, the fact that I didn't even join the nation[ for the past five years because of him, and the major reason why I came back is because I realized that the nation was more than just Erik.
I know I take micronationalism too seriously. And when I said that I was getting nightmares over the thoguht of Erik becoming Kaiser while I was still a citizen, I was not joking. You're talking about a literal fear. I could NOT SLEEP the past week because of the thought of my ideas going to waste.
Just to be fair, I'll post what I wrote in my proposal:

And great, now I'm crying in real life because of this. This is just too stressful for me, and I should have known that I was setting myself up to dissapointment.Yeesh. I cannot actually believe I am writing this, but I know that I must. I feel that it is neccessary for the health of Shireroth.
It's odd to think it at first, me actually being the ruler... But then again, I don't think it would be that big a deal in the end. As we all know, I am an active micronationalist - micronationalism is my life, and I have few dedications in real life, although that may change in the future, but I don't see it to be a big deal when you compare me to other people who have been Kaiser.
My major goal is this - I want Shireroth to thrive, not simply survive. We have survived for many years - over six years now. But it is rare that we have thrived. We do have more active citizens than any other micronation on Micras other than Lovely, but that doesn't say much. What I am saying here is that I want Shireroth to be a notable micronation, notable enough to be able to have an actual article on Wikipedia.
My first plan is to make Shireroth more political. By more "political", I don't mean macronational politics. By political I mean politics that are relevant to the nation. Right now I am Praetor of Shireroth - I want to continue and try to make the Landsraad into a true, active, functioning body instead of the defunct thing of the past. This is critical to everything - an interest in politics, whether it is just to refine the nation or add new actual ideas, is healthy for our nation, something that we are sorely missing.
Second of all, relating to politics, is the reccommendation for feudal politics within the fiefs of the nations. I would take off all limits on treaties inside the nation - there will be no ban of feudal treaties. In a sense this is needed anyhow - the current decrees on record would make feudal contracts illegal if we did not ignore it! This, plus a general disbandment of interfiefdom treaties, will encourage active politics within the nation. At the very least, it will be a choice, a choice to have the fiefdoms come close to each other.
Moreso, I want to remove the contradictions of the Lawbook and the Decreebook. Remove obsolete laws and decrees as well as these contradictions, I find to be paramount - even if no one else cares about a tidy legislature, it's paramount for a serious micronation. This might even come to a merge of the Lawbook and Decreebook if it is needed.
I would want more tourism campaigns. The last one was successful for giving us a few citizens (and like 50 inactive ones) - we have the potential to get a lot of new citizens, but WE NEED TO KEEP THEM. If this means that I will have to talk to each individual new citizen myself and nag them, I will, but there needs to be a more organized effort than that. I am thinking that we should create an entire new Ministry, a Ministry of Tourism. While related most closely to MINT, it will have quite a couple differences. MiniTour will focus on two major things - the attraction of new citizens into the nation, and keeping those new citizens. Both are critical if we are to flourish, not to merely survive. We need more likeminded citizens. Part of the reason why I want to seperate Tourism from MINT is because MINT is traditionally a more sedative position - e.g. it doesn't require as much activity. MiniTour will require a lot of more dedication for its mission. As well, MINT can focus on more accurate bookkeeping - do you remember my formulae for recording activity? I want to implement a system that can calculate activity for us on the forums, with MINT managing it. No more merely estimating how many active citizens we have.
I want to remove the last remnents of our previous personality-based micronation. As you know, the most successful stable micronations start out as nations almost completely based on their founder - Shireroth was one of them, so was Babkha, and Jasonia. However, it cannot continue forever. A founder must eventually let the nation go completely on its own and just become an equal to the rest. Simply put, this isn't Erik's nation anymore. This is the nation of Shireroth, a community. We are respected by other micronations because of our sense of community, and the fact that we have quite a bit - but we need to make it so that this is complete. There will be no more Old Boys Club.
The nation will not belong solely to one individual person in any sense. We have partially done this, indeed from the beginning, with our idea of rotating Kaisers. Ultimately this process must be complete. I want a superior form of choosing an heir for the nation if the previous leader did not declare one - it will no longer be an order of secession. Think of the way that we elect a Praetor - a similar idea (except with votes, not a ranking) would be sufficient, so that no Kaisership will be defaulted to a person. Erik's copout of "if no heir, go by birthright, e.g. me" will be eliminated - in the ultimate sense, it is inappropriate for a micronation to be a real hereditary monarchy, or to default to a person.
I want to stop our isolationism. We are respected by many in the micronational world, and have so much potential to become a world leader - but at the least, a guide. Put more focus into MicroWiki and the Micronational Astronomy Society. Renovate SNARL and have it working again, especially with the use of diplomacy-type rules. Have contact with more micronations, especially Reunion. If we can come into sufficient contact with Reunion, we have another huge part of micronationalism to start to notice us. I will not actually be part of the diplomacy process, although I will guide it. I want to stop the the feud with Antica - we had been friends with them in the past, and I don't think we should have any treachery of any sorts. Healing this would would be excellent for us, especially for the Anticans in our nation.
I want a post-based economy. The first things tht you have done was excellent. However, it can go for more than encouraging posts with a federal tax. A good example would be the production of games that would actually be sold with the erb, instead of just given away as they usually do. As well, allow fiefdoms to tax their vassals. Moreso, I am sure that there are plenty of people that have great ideas for the economy.
Finally, I want us to initiate the requirements to be considered notable in wikipedia. The most significant is contact with the press - offline sources. I am not exactly sure how we would go about this, but this is a long term goal for us. It is needed if we are going to become more than a mere unnotable micronation in the large scale of things.
To sum all of these things, they are all things that would increase our activity, remove some of our faults, and help us flourish instead of merely exist. We must no longer consider ourselves a sleeping giant in micronationalism.

Actually, I think Bill's proposal is a fine Kaiserial plan, and I would support Bill's kaisership in the future. If the decision had not just been made, I would have recommended that the Kaiseress reconsider her decision. I'm sorry to see that Bill was so close and yet not the one chosen. I will also be quite sad if Bill were to leave Shireroth, because that would mean he would be leaving Kildare as well.
That said, I will support Erik's kaisership anyway, and try to stay neutral between the two of them. I would encourage Erik to be nice to Bill as much as he can. I further encourage Bill to stick around, so that he can hopefully become kaiser and institute his ideas in the near future. I think his work on trying to bring the Decreebook and Lawbook into some sort of coherent system of laws is a very good idea, and I want to see that continued.

whoa.... leme get this straight, you bill, a functionig, mostly sane, indavidual are having this much mental-emotional stress about a MICRONATION!?!?!
take a leave of absence, straighten out your priorities in real life and come back to this as a HOBBY!
dont get me wrong, im in love with this great experiment in government but i also realize there are no real life implications from this nation other than that which one would play in a game or performance.
when i first joined and i explained this to my girlfriend who has a bachlorette in Psychology from san jose state, and is currently in the hiring process for several institutions for the psychiatrich field, told me that this sounds like a form of dellusia that borders on the mentally unhealthy.
i half agree to be honest, but that is EXACTLY why i enjoy role playing, micronationalism, and other artistic outlets. they allow me to have control which keeps me from harming myself and others. i ENJOY the stress and strife of these HOBBIES, should they ever stop giving me joy i will go back to masturbation... more often.... but anyway... like i said.
if this kindas thing works you over that bad, or anybody for that manner, take break! or art the very least demote yourself to a count and make up stories for a while, something....

I would love to, but this has happened too many times in the past in every hobby I have been in and cared about. It's just the way I am, unfortuanatly. It will always happen regardless if I am taking a break. Plus, why do you think I'm emmigrating?take a leave of absence, straighten out your priorities in real life and come back to this as a HOBBY!
Oh, and no true micronationalist is truely emotionally stable.
That doesn't work. My culture is not Shirerothian.if this kindas thing works you over that bad, or anybody for that manner, take break! or art the very least demote yourself to a count and make up stories for a while, something....

It's that time again.... an Erik-on-throne time...
Conservatives arise! Leapeth to thy soapbox for thou knowest full well that from this day the full might and power of the feudal state shall stand behind thee!
Reformists scatter! Keep thy mouths shut, retreat to thine own departments and cross thy fingers that this darkest of ages shall pass in short time.
Behold the blood of innocents shall flow down the gullet of dogma! The souls of the worthy shall be drowned in stagnant method! And arise shall a new breed like so many mosquito larvae from this motionless pool, and cast as they would countless long nights over the land... yet all the while the good work shall continue in every unlit office and provincial hamlet.
And I'm done
Bill, if Shireroth is big enough a thing to give you tears and sleepless nights, we know you'll be back to see it all the way to the bitter end...

Hopefully our new Kaiser will be mature enough not to hold a grudge against a citizen for speaking his mind as he is entitled or rest assured you will make far more than one enemy that day.Kaiser Letifer II wrote:You know... if you didn't attack me... To be perfectly honest, I also would've supported Bill for the Kaisership.
Not because Erik's bad or some bullshit like that, but because it'd be fresh blood, a bit of reinvigoration to Shireroth that is desperately needed.
I know Bill can be a stubborn hardass at times, but he really cares about this place, and I think if it came down to it, he'd put himself on the line to see this place prosper.
I'm not saying Erik would'nt do that either. But Erik has had the job plenty of times before. Bill hasn't been given the opportunity to do it yet. He should be given that opportunity to prove himself. Erik has had that opportunity before and no doubt will have it again. Whereas Bill has not. So what if he tries and fails? The nation isn't going to fall apart if he fucks up. At least he was given the opportunity. Same as you were, Fax.

oz, don't go around threatening people with bold words....it sounds to silly.
Bill, please don't leave. go on holiday if you have to, or live in the cartography office and I'll deliver food personaly if needs be, just don't leave.
If you apply to remove your citizenship, I'll make up red tape.
Fax, I would have applied myself, but I am a head of state elsewhere...
And Erik, congratulations.
To people who are not Erik, During the short time that I used to do a bit of brick laying, one of the most important things to do was to, after spreading cement and laying the bricks in place, level off the bricks and tap things into place, cleaning up the work allready done. if you missed that step, the next layer of bricks would be wonky and ill founded. It is my hope that, with this reign, Erik will clean up the work that has been done by the previos Kaisers so that they are a strong foundation for the next layer of Our history.
After this reign? we mix more cement. I hope that Bill will be in that.

*nods appreciatively at David* Very nice analogy.
Oz... I'm not coming into this reign with any grudges or displeasures towards anyone, I'm starting with a clean slate so I can do the job, but don't test me. Maybe it would be best if you moved along and didn't try to start a conflict with me. Sound good?
