You'll probably need to get the modem driver. Try going to the manufacturer's website. And who would have thought that my fate, it would conjure this twist in the road on which I have wandered? Each vision and dream now completely dismembered, to give one's whole life and find nothing's remembered...And what good is a life that leaves nothing behind? Not a thought or a dream that might echo in time

I need anyone's help. (buggy internet)
I am currently using dial up (feel pity), but I have an external modem that can be configured to use both USB and ethernet. right now it is set up to use USB since thats what my old computer and my dads laptop use, but when I connect with AOL it simply says, "DNS server unreachable". The modem works fine with my old computer, so why not this one? Perhaps there is something simple i'm missing? And please, dont tell me to restart my modem and computer. I tried that. :P Majority rule don't work in mental insitutions...-NOFX

... or you can connect it with Ethernet instead of USB, in which case you do not need a driver for the modem. Jag har glömt hur pjäserna stod!

dns server unreachable means either...1, you are not connected to the net or2, you are connected but have touble with DNS servers....simply test...go to Start >> runtype "command" if you are on win89 or win meor type "cmd" if you are on win2000 or winxpin the dos prompt that comes up, tpyeping 212.58.224.125if you get a responce, then you are connected, and thus need to sort out dns servers....normally, at this point I would ask you what OS you are using, then direct you to the bit for putting in dns servers...except you are using aol..which does dumb stuff...becuase it's dumb

Ok, then if you can ping by IP, then we know that the connection is perfectly fine, and that there is no problem with your modem....asuuning that you did do that test while connected on the connnection you are having trouble with...in which case, what operating system do you have?

I did it while on Dial up, so take that for what it's worth. And XP.

Well, it's worth just about nothing . And yes, if you connect the modem via Ethernet, you only need a driver for your network card, not the modem, unless it does something truly fucked up (i.e. anything other than speaking TCP/IP on top of Ethernet). Find out somewhere what internal IP address the modem picks and ping that. If that works... well, in the best case all we need to do then is to set up a connection to the Internet via LAN, which isn't all that difficult, nor should it be dependent on the ISP.
