Veliken War - The Battle of Alcyon

Post by Bill3000 »

The road to Alcyon seemed to be infinite. Despite the fact that it's a relatively short trek to the Antican border (At least compared to the rest of Velike), the trek seemed to be long and agonizing. But that really was all in Quillan's mind. Quillan always was a complainer, much like his foster father. And yet, he was the damned captain of an elite militia, 10,000 men strong, plus 8,000 other men from the Blue Sun Army. The men were extremely well trained in both armies; no one were grunts. Plus, the CoD militia had the advantage of knowing some magic and having technology taken from the old Menelmacar days, which were way ahead of their time; at least compared to what most micronations still had today. He knew that the odds were in their favor; the problem was that, quite frankly, his feet hurt.Ah, his feet. Despite the fact that he was adopted by a human, Quillan practically seemed to get everything from his foster father. Flat feet and not that much of a tolerance for walking, Quillan absolutely hated long treks, despite the fact that he had been doing them all his life. Through climbing in the Micronia Caverns, through walking all over the large and long island chain of Menelmacar, through walking all over a freaking planet in the Atos system to find a remote damned weapon than the One of the Chrono could use to stop Fate. And yet, even as the leader of a militia after all of those adventures had gone by, his feet hurt. Such a trivial problem caused him a ton of pain. Looking around, he saw the rest of the militia walking right with him. Some have been lucky enough to take the jeeps, but there weren't enough for everyone. And Quillan wasn't one to be stuck up and take one of them; as a Paladin, he'd follow through stalwartly by foot with the rest of the men. Rather, he would have been stalwart if it wasn't for his feet.Looking around, he noticed the remnents of some artifacts that his father had told him in the past. He saw statues of Evan von Christoph, a great Audente hero who was eventually made Emporer. He saw old towers from both the Audente and Gracian Kingdom ages. He knew from the map that Alcyon was built on the ruins of Demesos City, the capital for the longest time of the United Demesos, and its previous state as the Province of Demesosia before it became independent.Yet all of those days were gone. He knew that Apollonia was past its prime; he knew that this happened almost a thousand years ago. With the death of Menelmacar, no nation dare calls itself Apollonian, for both the stigma attached to it and the hatred. Even Shireroth, a nation which had close connections with Apollonia for pretty much its entire existance, doesn't consider itself Apollonian, despite the fact that it controlled Apollonia; Kildare. Apollonia itself, as Kildare, has still changed quite a bit. As it became Shirerithian, Apollonian culture had slowly been swapped out for Shirerithian culture; BO0O/\/\ism and Cedrism had become quite the rage in Kildare, especially in Blackrock Nua, the capital of the Dutchy. Hallucination had formed its own culture as well, differing from its previous cultures and heritages as Audente and Atteran colonies. Yet, he had to wonder. Would Apollonia ever rise again? Would the non-human races, (indeed, Quillan himself was a half-elf) finally get the treatment they deserved? He recalled the persecutation and slaughter of the elves that lived in Elwynn once Ardishir became Baron, and just shuttered. This was excluding his obvious memories of the Purge of Non-Humans years before that during his Control of Destiny adventure. But he knew that life had a purpose, that he still had a destiny. He knew that he had to take Alcyon, take back the past. He knew that his men would win, because they had Quillan Umbarcotumo as a captain; whose major advantage was inspiring valor and courage into his troops.Quillan picked up his intercom and called up a messanger."Yes?" the messanger said."Send a communication to Captain Steven of the 4th Infantry Division of Antica. Tell him that we offer either his surrender, or an offer of retreating from Alcyon, in order to prevent a bloodslaughter. I'm sure that he'll decline on both offers, but I rather do it for my own sake.""Yessir", the messanger said. Quillan hung up. Despite the fact that he was in the military, despite the fact that he had been in so many battles throughout his long life, despite even being a Paladin, whose job is to slay evil, he always felt horrified in killing people. Perhaps it was the fact that he was quite partially of the Life quintessence; he was half-elven, after all, and had an innate love of both life and nature. Thus, he always wished to be able to grant mercy to his enemies (As long as they were uncorrupted, of course), and wished in some sense, that despite the imminent battle to come, that it didn't have to happen. But he can't manipuate other people; they were of their own free will, their own quintessences. But he had hope. The combined force of the Control of Destiny milita and 4/5ths of the Blue Sun Army have started marching towards Alcyon to the north. Captain Umbarcotumo has sent a (futile) message to Captain Steven of the 4th Infantry Division of an offer to surrender, or at least retreat.
