Treaty with the Republic of Antica

Post by AngelGuardian93 »

Quote:WHEREAS the two countries of the IMPERIAL REPUBLIC OF SHIREROTH and the REPUBLIC OF ANTICA, having come into contact with one another and and finding their interests to be coincident, do desire to formalize and secure their cordial feelings, they do agree:FIRST, that each recognize the other as a sovereign and independent country, possessed of all the rights entailed therebySECOND, that each recognize the other as the sole legitimate owner of all territory, both physical and imaginary, which they claimTHIRD, that both countries commit to resolve all mutual disputes peacefully, using a neutral third partied agreed to by both should this prove impossible by normal channelsFOURTH, that both countries shall remain open and accessible to tourists and other visitors from one another, barring national emergencies or other such security issuesFIFTH, that proper channels of communication shall be opened between them, so as to facilitate dialogue and future cooperationTime to open Pandora's Box. There are no flowers, no not this time. There will be no angels gracing the lines, just these stark words I find.

Eh... I still prefer keeping neutral over the issues. The entire incident reeks of Menelmacar in the first place, and I hate having to prefer one nation over the other, even if the Republic is less "evil." Then again, trying to stay neutral is hard when one of the two nations has a better moral ground. Netopalis votes a very biased AYE (2).On an unbiased note, the Dinarchy has made every effort to impede micronational diplomacy through it's own legislation, and therefore is not nifty enough to qualify a treaty. ________________It is a damn poor mind indeed which can't think of at least two ways to spell any word.-Andrew Jackson

Elwynn would like to express its reluctance in having Shireroth put into a position where Shireroth will have to make a stance in deciding in which “Antica” Shireroth should have relations with. Elwynn does not like to see one nation divided. It happened with Menelmacar, and we have all seen the fruits of that.Elwynn feels that the Dinarchy’s way of dealing with the issue of the so called Republic of Antica has been done badly and without any consideration or hopes of ever reuniting Antica under a central government, but should Shireroth recognise the “Republic” as a sovereign and free state, then our relations with the Dinarchy would be hampered. For the record, Elwynn would it like to be noted that the efforts of the de facto government of the island of Nafticon and other territories of that government have been good and peaceminded, a gesture Elwynn welcomes. However, Elwynn is a strong and firm believer in legal continuity and the sovereign rights a free and independent state has. Recognising the government in Nafticon as a “sovereign and independent county, possessed of all the rights entailed thereby” would be an unjust action for Shireroth to do, and something the people of Elwynn cannot accept as the territorial integrity of the Dinarchy of Antica is compromised. Note Shireroth’s treaty with the Dinarchy which states that “each recognize the other as the sole legitimate owner of all territory, both physical and imaginary, which they claim”. Nafticon and the other territories under the jurisdiction of the Antican “republic”. Thus, the proposed treaty with the Nafticon government would go against the treaty with the original Antican state. This treaty, which has been ratified, is law in Shireroth. The proposed treaty with the republican government in Nafticon would be illegal (or at best be a conflict of laws). In light of that Elwynn asks the Praetor to disqualify this bill for ratification.Elwynn does, however, believe that the Antican dinarchy is a place of crooks and should as soon as possible be destroyed by any war-levying state. Because this situation is a bit complicated, I would like to get the Kaiser's opinion on whether this treaty should qualify for ratification, before just saying one way or another. *throws grenade for the hell of it*BO0O0O0O0/\/\!!!!!!

Well, the point of the matter is that the previous treaty we would have with the Dinarchy would be cancelled if we recongized the Republic. Saying that we have to cancel the treaty ourselves first in this case is kind of stupid, as this implies that we would be cancelling it. I agree that this bill should be redrawn to drop the references to territory. Since it is not in our best interest to strain our relations with the Dinarchy beyond their current tensity it is for the best. However, I think that a treaty with the Republic has been a while coming, and they are no less worthy of our friendship and support than the Dinarchy ever has been. That is, in effect, what Delphi and his fellows are trying to imply with their actions, after all, that because of the betrayal of half the citizenry, the other Antica is not worthy of friends. Or at least I think so. Their certainty that they can manage without all of us filthy foreigners (not that that's a quote or anything..) leaves me a little uncertain of what their attitude as a micronation actually is.No-one will dictate Shirerithian foreign policy but the Kaiser and the Mini-Ex. Since both of those happen to be positions occupied by myself, I say that the redrawn treaty will be voted on, will hopefully receive ratification from the Landsraad, and will herald at the very least a new diplomatic playing field, and at most (we can live and dream) could pave the way for some sort of reconciliation and/or peace between the two Anticas.

Elwynn proposes the following as a compromise, as long as the Antican republic agrees with it:Quote:WHEREAS the two countries of the IMPERIAL REPUBLIC OF SHIREROTH and the REPUBLIC OF ANTICA, having come into contact with one another and and finding their interests to be coincident, do desire to formalize and secure their cordial feelings, they do agree:FIRST, that each recognize the other as a sovereign and independent country, possessed of all the rights entailed therebySECOND, that both countries commit to resolve all mutual disputes peacefully, using a neutral third partied agreed to by both should this prove impossible by normal channelsTHIRD, that both countries shall remain open and accessible to tourists and other visitors from one another, barring national emergencies or other such security issuesFOURTH, that proper channels of communication shall be opened between them, so as to facilitate dialogue and future cooperation
