Draft - short introductions to the subdivisions for newbies
I intend to post this to the ministry of immigration to supplement the immigration request form... reason being that the nobles of Shireroth seem to tend to like to advertise their own duchies and baronies without really telling why people should join them... I'm posting this here first because I want to run it past you guys to check for mistakes, glaring omissions and of course to add more interesting stuff. These aren't as long as Scott's blurbs, but then again, the purpose is to describe the nature of the duchies/baronies themselves instead of telling the whole ancient history of Shireroth...Duchy of Brookshire: The traditional place of the throne of the Kaiser. Brookshire is not very active in itself, being that people who live in Brookshire tend to be more concerned about the business of the whole Imperial Republic instead of only their own duchy. While Brookshireans are rather laid-back and love partying, they usually do it elsewhere than in their own duchy since Brookshire needs to be kept generally clean-looking for any visitors.Barony of Straylight: Perhaps the most unique barony in the Imperial Republic, the population of Straylight consists almost entirely of dolphins. Straylight is the first place in Shireroth for all intelligent marine life to go to or live in. Most of the population of Straylight is quite oblivious to the affairs of humans and not necessarily even completely aware of being a part of Shireroth, but the barony does traditionally have at least one person (or dolphin, or in some cases, both) to represent Straylightian affairs in the Landsraad (the highest ruling council of Shireroth).Duchy of Goldshire: (need more stuff about Goldshire... Harvey? Jadie? BTW, it's spelled "dutchy" on the forums) Although a part of the main continent of Shireroth, Goldshire is mainly a rural duchy. It is well known that no plans about great structures or cities can be realised in Goldshire; its capital, once meant to be a bustling metropolis, is still officially called only a hamlet, and one couple of rulers who wanted to build a palace in Goldshire still has to make do with a tree fort. Goldshire is well known for its beautiful nature which tourists all around the microworld have seen.Duchy of Kildare: (need more stuff about this, too... hm...) Historically a land divided by ancient hatred between the Audentes and the Automatics - two long dead cultures - Kildare is nowadays a land of peace. It is known for revelations about history and other research that is unique in Shireroth. Kildarean people are more inclined towards research of history and other academic affairs than most Shirerothians, but nearly as much so as the Hyperboreans.Barony of Schlangen: Known for having the first (and only) baroness ever in Shireroth, Schlangen is nowadays the home of most of the Shirerithian aerospace technology. Both A.S.T.R.O. (AeroSpace Tactical Research Operations, the national space agency of Shireroth) and the Shirerithian Air Force are situated in Schlangen.Barony of Novi Dalmacija: (correct me if I'm wrong here... was this place Istvanistan's "representative" to the Apollo Pact? I'm making most of this description up...) A barony defined by its history, Novi Dalmacija is a place that many of the peoples of Shireroth nostalgically reminisce but few live in. It used to be known for partying and laid-backness that rivalled even that of the Yardistani. Nowadays, however, Novi Dalmacija is almost uninhabited - perhaps because its history also had its darker side...Barony of Kitanus Fields: (this blurb is already pretty good IMO but if you want to make it longer then go ahead, Eros or Stone) A land covered in perpetual deep fog, the Kitanus Fields are a place of mystery and intrigue. The Kitanians are nomads, living among fantastic creatures that are not known anywhere else in the world and preferring to roam and adventure instead of staying in one place for long. Duchy of Elwynn: A duchy bustling with activity thanks to the partying going on there, Elwynn is a land of music, good food and merriness. Elwynnians are very welcoming to newcomers and the duchy is known for being a gentle introduction to the Shirerithian way of life to many of the nicest people of the Republic. Barony of Hyperborea: Once an independent state, Hyperborea is the most northern and most enlightened of all of Shirerithian duchies. The Hyperboreans are a peaceful people, dedicated to the values of truth, beauty, peace, friendship and other such good things. Living conditions in Hyperborea are extremely harsh, but the locals don't mind since they consider their island a sanctuary from the world that is full of malevolence, lies, wars and enmity. The Hyperboreans are among the wisest and most benevolent of all Shirerithians.Duchy of Yardistan: Perhaps the most famous of all of the duchies of Shireroth, Yardistan currently serves as the forum for all completely off-topic discussion of the nation. The Yardistani have a penchant for going on random sprees of annexing all sorts of things all around the world, although these events have been rather rare lately. As a people, the Yardistani are anarchistic, more laid-back and definitely more insane than any other of the peoples of Shireroth.Duchy of Lothlaria: A duchy dedicated to a single animal, the Lothlarians are all fans of the (I need an adjective here... Mattlore?) kiwi. Lately Lothlaria has also been known for hosting sports tournaments for the Imperial Republic. However, as a duchy, Lothlaria is a place that is meant to be a better place for kiwis to live in than people. As a historical detail, Lothlaria is also a home for dead nations; The Mondesias, which used to be quite well-known if small states, were merged into Lothlaria after being annexed in a recwar by Shireroth. Quote: you probably wern't thinking along these lines but howabout 'endangered'.OK... I rewrote the entry around that theme:Duchy of Lothlaria: A duchy dedicated to a single animal, the Lothlarians are all concerned about the continued existence of the kiwi. In fact, it could be said that Lothlaria is meant to be a place for kiwis instead of people. Lothlaria is home not only for an endangered species, but also for for dead nations; The Mondesias, which used to be quite well-known if small states, were merged into Lothlaria after being annexed in a recwar by Shireroth. Lately the duchy has been mostly busy with organizing sports events.Quote:Also Lothlaria has Jaris and Califario in it...Yeah, I included only the duchies and baronies that have a forum. Mostly because I don't know anything at all to say about Jaris, Califario, Verwollkommung and whatever places I forgot... "I believe they just installed Gentoo Linux."

according to j2ri, Jaris actually does have a board... Raised by a family of Griffins in the forests of Llanowar, this young mage is rumored to be the sole male born of the Serra tribe.

If by board you mean separate from Shireroths, than they shouldn't be allowed to do anything important on them and they should be closely monitered by the Kaiser or somebody he appoints... -Gryphon Avocatio- Anarch and Duke of all Yardistan - Minister of Imigration and Naturalisation, Shireroth - Shirerothian Elder - "Minsiter of Dance, Pants and Funny Walks" - SAVE THE KIWI!!
