Dp you honestly fear a smiley bomb attack? Have you not heard the our princess has invented a protocol that can eliminate them with ease? Perhaps you have been laying in an abandoned mind shaft for the past few months?I know your intelligence networks are not as good as ours, so I figured I would share this tidbit with out: he is thinking about making the ministry move you brought up.

I took the liberty of turning on smileys in all public forms, including this one, the Kaieress's court, the ministries, the territories, and a few other ones.Feel free to send your angry mobs after me now. We had to study it in Ptia before becoming officers. The theories are flawless. The user never comes in direct or indirect contact with bombed post or thread. The only *real* way around it is to use weaponry that posts too quickly to be deleted. However, that is not a faw in the Aegis Protocol, but rather the administrators of the forum not locking things down.Besides, pictures can be turned off in most browers, so that is a fail-safe if the Aegis somehow fails. You should get your minister of information to archive this forum. Page 19, I see. It would not take long for things to be deleted... less then 10 minutes, I predict.

*wonders what Cas'Var is doing* Hey, stay in Goldshire, you! You came here to save my life, remember?Anyway, you know it too. Someone has to do it. It sure as PRH is not going to be me. This is the second time I have been yelled at for trying to help fill the void around here. And this is how you treat me!What the heck is your problem lately? I never asked you to reply, but you did anyway?Okay, bad example. What about your cooking class? Would you have wanted that to have been delayed longer then it was? The Kaiseress never asked me to do it, but I did it because you wanted me to.And now suddenly, when it is my idea, it is someone greedy and underhanded. The logic does not follow. Am I only supposed to follow orders? What about my ideas? Harvey SteffkeJadie's Lesser HalfSaves the worldProud bearer of the Shirerothian Silver Sword Award and Imperial Star

Of course it would. But we do not have one now, and the Kaiseress seems... reluctant to handle the job herself, mostly on my recomendation I suppose. Harvey SteffkeJadie's Lesser HalfSaves the worldProud bearer of the Shirerothian Silver Sword Award and Imperial Star

Critique of the protocol...

Post by Ari Rahikkala »

Remember, this so-called... protocol... of yours doesn't touch upon the issue of spam, only smiley bombs. The former can be battled with post rate limitation, admin vigilance and a Rigorous Archival Policy. Against the latter, well, URL trickery works - you won't have to load the page with the bomb at all. But whoop de doo, so does not using the goddamned IE with image loading turned on as your browser! I'm not sure if Lynx can be used for EzBoard administration, but I have no reason to believe that it can't. If it doesn't support something essential, just go one step higher and try, say, ELinks. Quote:The user never comes in direct or indirect contact with bombed post or thread. The links to delete/edit posts are in EzBoard's page sources before the content, meaning that you don't actually even have to load smiley bombs to be able to delete them... just stop the page loading at the right part (and use a browser that won't slow down even if it happens to load a couple hundred thousand smilies). This way is quite probably more convenient and faster than the protocol... especially for deleting large amounts of smiley bomb replies in useful threads.Expressing the same thing in a more coherent way... in case a board is spammed by smiley bombs as new threads, you can just tell the bombs by their titles/posters and mass-delete. No loading of the thread contents required. In case a board is spammed by smiley bombs as replies to old threads, the protocol is either destructive (as you kill whole threads) or quite inconvenient (as you have to find out the indices of the posts to delete yourself *and* substitute both the indices and the topic numbers in the post deletion URL), but using a browser that isn't so damn sensitive (or a couple of instances of one concurrently) works quite well. In order to find his equal, an Irishman is forced to talk to a Finn.Edited by: Ari Rahikkala at: 7/29/03 1:15 am

Now wait a darn minute. EQ cannot just claim the concept of a mob! We may not have had it first, but neither did they!
