Real Ashintully Pics!

Post by Ryan »

I finally managed to get them off the picture CD and upload them to my AOL account via FTP (patience is a virtue...). Anyhow, these are pics of the REAL Ashintully I based the Apollonian equivalent off of. Cause they're big pics, i'm just putting up the URL's.http://www.hometown.aol.com/warvoid/ASH1.jpgA view of the ruins as you ascend the mountain path that leads up to them from the gardens below.http://www.hometown.aol.com/warvoid/ASH2.jpgA view of the ruins from the opposite side, with a large amount of the old palace foundation visible.http://www.hometown.aol.com/warvoid/ASH3.jpgA view of the pillars looking straight out into the Berkshire Hills. From this point, you're looking at the valleys in and around Otis and Tyringham. This is probably my best pic in the set.http://www.hometown.aol.com/warvoid/ASH4.jpgAnother view of the pillars, with me in front. Now you can get a pretty good idea how big these things are. I'm about six feet tall.http://www.hometown.aol.com/warvoid/ASH5.jpgA view of the stone steps, covered in ornate carvings, leading up the garden path.http://www.hometown.aol.com/warvoid/ASH6.jpgIf you zoom in, you'll notice the writing on this weird stone is in Arabic. I thought it was cool...http://www.hometown.aol.com/warvoid/ASH7.jpgA view of the fountain and pool in the lower gardens.http://www.hometown.aol.com/warvoid/ASH8.jpgA nice view of the Berkshire Hills. This was the pic I compared to Goldshire's background image.

Probably a mansion. We have lots of similar things here in Jersey. Some pretty large and fantastic ones too. If only we didn't risk getting arrested whenever we went near them... ...And I can't believe that I'm here to stay......'Cause I never worked it out this way......And I love you more than I can say......But I hate you every other way

It is a mansion. Rather, it is styled the Marble Palace. I didn't even have to make that up.The place apparently belonged to some rich Bostonian politician in the 1800's. All the stone and pillars were dragged by oxen up this huge hill (it's a hell of a hike) where they built it. Unfortunately, a fire broke out in the 1930's (IIRC) and since it was so high up, they could'nt get fire trucks to it so they just let it burn. All that remained is the pillars and foundation.Everything is marble. Even the stone walls around the house are made of marble with scenes carved on them. It's really quite a sight. The gardens were built later, in the 1970's, by some other famous personality who won a whole bunch of prizes for them.

Hey now, that is pretty cool! I will need to work this thing into a story somehow. Or maybe a WarVoid painting...

That is a very pretty location indeed... We don't get as much greenery around these parts.I'm really impressed by the pillars, especially by the fact that they're greek ionic-stlye built columns... "Never let sense conquer nonesense"-- Quixy the god of Madness.
