ARI!!!

Post by Harvey the Blue »

I have decided that the pre-civilization LightEning character in the CoD series has lasted long enough. I want the Ari we all know and love to be in the game. And since I am making the terrible decision of giving people slight input into their own character designs, I have some questions for you:1) What is your weapon of choice? And no, it does not need to be practical.2) How do you want to talk? I was thinking like someone out of the Hitchhiker's guide would fit you, but if you want to sound like someone else, then this is the time to say so.3) Do you have some music that suits you?4) What do you want to look like? A physical descrption works, or (preferably) you could talk to Mr. Siskind and steal his account info to find a face for me.5) I am keeping you as Thunder innate because of LightEning, but do you have any special signature moves you want? They do not need to be thunder-based.Thank you. Any questions you do not fill out are up to my whims, and even the ones you do are too, but I try not to focus on that too much. Oh my, oh my... I have so many different choices of what character I would be like that I'm seriously considering just giving you three to five different sets of answers to those questions and letting you choose what sort of character you want :). In fact, I've been planning to write some sort of introductions to my different selves and post them to the Straylight forum whenever it's recreated... However, this time I'll just pick the current "me" character that I would "be" if I were to write a story that was situated on the surface of Micras, with only the silly (he's a beer mage) and incompatible (he's a water mage) parts left away...Basically, the most notable trait of this character is that he can shapeshift between human and dolphin form at will. How to fit that into the RPGMaker engine is left up to you (for the character to have a knack of disappearing every time you get to a coastal place and then suddenly reappearing later might be convenient). Other than that, I haven't actually defined his character very far (all I know is that he's got magic powers), so I'll just try to make up answers that are convenient for you here :).1) I am not really fond of most weapons. But when push comes to shove, I'll prefer something light and elegant. With luck, I'm sometimes even a good shot with my weapon of choice, although those situations are rare.2) I strive to please and if I've succeeded, I guess that would fit me pretty well. Just remember that I'm the character who has written the book about dolphins in the bookcase in the beginning of the game. And hasn't lost his obsession. 3) Ommadawn by Mike Oldfield ;). Nah. Since we're probably looking for .mid music... how about the Mars theme of X-Com: UFO Defense? It's restrained enough for my tastes but, er, noisy enough to fit the general theme of the music that I've heard in the CoD games this far. Definitely noisier than this really cool piece of piano music whose name I don't know...4) I'd like to know what is the exact nature of the causal relationship between stealing Scott's account info and finding a face picture of me (unless he happens to have an anime-ized version of either of those two pictures of me that have ever been digitized and put online)... otherwise, I haven't really thought of what my character's face should look like, and I don't want to make the choice here. Just don't make me the ugliest nor the most handsome guy on the block. Oh, and note that in my human form, I look like simply a human, and that's that.5) OK... I tried to be composed during answering the four other questions, so I reserve the right to go totally over the top (edit: TOP! TOP! TOP! Not board! I should never use idioms I don't know by heart) with this one :). The first sentence after the name of every ability is a short explanation of what the ability does, the rest is what the ability is. How you're going to fit both of them into a single sentence is, again, up to you :). So is deciding how powerful they should be, what level they should be learnt at, and if putting them into the game makes any sense or not. I'd recommend scratching a theme or two that you wouldn't like to have in the game for achieving at least some consistency...(Micronational behaviour stuff)* Witty insult: Reduces the mind powers of an enemy. Self-evident.* Disappearance: Raises my defence a lot. Makes me a factor that few outsiders notice in a battle, but who still has an effect. Could be named "Behind the scenes".(Computer stuff)* Unix tirade: Causes... well, whatever state is the closest to confusion :). A rant about a computer-related issue that is completely irrelevant to whatever is happening and that nobody understands a word about. A close equivalent of Scott's Audentior History. Could be named "Linux tirade".* Install Linux: Increases the speed and relia... I mean defense of a robot :). Quite self-evident.(Thunder mage stuff)* Shock Therapy: Heals the "numb" and "berserk" status effects, possibly more. Self-evident.* Thunderous wrath: An ol' plain and simple magic attack to cause lots of damage to an enemy. Learned from the Kaiser of Shireroth :).(Dolphin stuff)* Sonar soothing: Increases the speed and defense of an ally. A harmonius series of sonar clicks that relaxes and reassures a person before (or in the midst of) a battle. I create this by temporarily shifting a part of my head to its dolphin form.* Sonar attack: Numbs an enemy. Same thing as sonar soothing, except with a lot more energy in a lot more potent and directed packet.* Sonar scan: Decreases the defense of an enemy. A short scan of the equipment and body of an enemy with the sonar, followed with announcing his/her/its weak points.Yep, these mean that in a battle you can usually expect my head to have no constant form... I had about half of your story finished before this, but that about seals the deal. Should be interesting to see what the final product ends up to be!Quote:I am not really fond of most weapons. But when push comes to shove, I'll prefer something light and elegant.Cute, nice way to weasel out of the question. An actual answer would be kind of nice... otherwise you might end up fighting with a banzai tree!Quote:I'd like to know what is the exact nature of the causal relationship between stealing Scott's account info and finding a face picture of meWell... Scott signed up for an RPGMaker2000 archive site, so there are a lot of pictures in there to choose from. I was kind of vaguely sorta hoping you could just go find one for yourself. But if it does not matter to you I can find something suitable.Quote:I'd recommend scratching a theme or two that you wouldn't like to have in the game for achieving at least some consistency...Consistancy?! Bah! Actually, it might be possible to work it all together if I could make you switch between human and dolphin form in battle. If not... eh, I will figure something out.The rest of it looks pretty workable. The midi music seems suitable and the moves look zany enough to actually work. Thanks for helping me work this out! (Double post made useful)I'm not quite sure if Thunderous Wrath really fits the character... but then again, it doesn't have to... "I believe they just installed Gentoo Linux."Edited by: Ari Rahikkala at: 5/11/03 12:54:16 pm

Quote:Cute, nice way to weasel out of the question. An actual answer would be kind of nice... otherwise you might end up fighting with a banzai tree! Hey, it worked against a dragon :p. Perhaps a shrubbery would be more relevant this time ;) ?Nah... make that something that... hm. I think I would begin with something that isn't even intended to kill people, just deter them... let's say Mace. But I can advance to heavier stuff like pistols/laser pistols/gauss pistols/other sidearms after finding out that killing things is actually required :).Quote:Well... I'm going to sleep in ten minutes, though, so this will likely be left for tomorrow...Quote:Actually, it might be possible to work it all together if I could make you switch between human and dolphin form in battle. Well... this character's gender seems a bit indetermined, but we'll just call the guy a he, OK? You have to make decisions like that every time when dealing anime characters' faces...I like him mostly for the colour of the clothing and the hair... he does look a bit too serious, though. I mean, I just can't look at that face, listen to the theme music and think of how he would silently do away with someone who has not, even after several years of trying, learned to pronounce his last name correctly. Oh, wait, that's exactly what I was thinking... ah well. There's another hurdle; if the normal laws of physics applied he wouldn't be able to see a thing with his right eye... but being that he's an anime character his hair never gets in the way no matter how huge it is.(note: he's in the RTP heroes #2 rework faceset) "I believe they just installed Gentoo Linux."

A pacifist RPG character? Hmmmm... that could get really interesting. The ultimate support character... one who hates to fight but still hurls insults and does other bizzare things in combat.Okay, about that face... it is taken by a guy named Pia'Sur. Which kind of poses a small problem. Harvey SteffkeJadie's Lesser HalfSaves the worldProud bearer of the Shirerothian Silver Sword Award and Imperial Star

He had problems adjusting to the rather physical ways of socializing that dolphins prefer, you know. But yes, I like being a support character, especially one who does bizzarre things in combat...Quote:Okay, about that face... it is taken by a guy named Pia'Sur. Which kind of poses a small problem.I knew this. There are just too many faces in those games for me to remember. Hm. Maybe you could just choose a couple of faces (two or three would be enough, I think) and run them past me so I can choose, or just pick a picture based on what I've told about the character. The face isn't that critical... "I believe they just installed Gentoo Linux."

Tell em about it. :-\ Between the cast of 25+, the minor characters, and the bosses, we are looking at around 60 unique faces. It really cuts down on what I can use for new people.I will look through what I have and try to find a few that fit you, and you can choose one then. Just a reminder, I won't be able to be here constantly next week (and during the summer) so if you still want me to pick a face for my character or, well, have anything to ask... you might want to do it pretty soon. "I believe they just installed Gentoo Linux."

I've made some important observations about broadband Internet connections... namely, you can't live with them and you can't live without them. I've been several times more productive in, well, everything lately... but I've hated not having access to Google and http://www.tracetech.net/sanat and... everything... well, let's see what will come out of it...Anyway... http://www.lyseo.edu.ouka.fi/~li...inal-c.png , http://www.lyseo.edu.ouka.fi/~li...dent-c.png . I'd prefer that the latter gets used since I like light colours... but... I have very little skill at the field of visual art so the changed picture seems a bit unnatural. You may pick whichever seems to fit the general theme of the game's graphics better yourself. "I believe they just installed Gentoo Linux."

Hmmm... sideways faces. Harder to do expressions on, or easier, I am not sure, but certainly different. Well all right then. If that is what you want, that is what you will get.The graphics of the game are... varied, to put it lightly. So I can use the face you prefer without any problems.
