Opening Horjinic Magic, Creatures, and Language
That's right, folks, the basis for the Hunters of the Stag has been set. However, there is still much to be explored in their universe, and now I am allowing everyone to do so.I'm maintaining full control over the core of their world, but specific aspects are now available for your free reign. However, there are still rules. There are always rules, and here is no exception.MagicThe first thing to remember is that spirit magic is centered around the Transaction: nothing comes for free. If you're going to ask something of a spirit, you're going to have to give it something. Whether or not that "something" is an item in the form of an offering, a promised action later on, or even temporarily giving up one of your senses doesn't matter: the point is, you have to give the spirit SOMETHING. And the more impressive or powerful the thing you ask it, the rarer or more potent the offering is going to have to be.I ask that you don't modify existing paths of magic simply for continuity's sake. Besides, who says there can't be multiple paths for the same activity?Take the Path of the Falling Star, for instance. It's archery magic, but it's very focused on elemental arrows. There's plenty of potential for other paths of archery magic: perhaps one for phantom arrows, maybe one for guided arrows, theoretically even one for arrow-riding.The point is, there are many ways to do one thing. And there's no reason to keep paths of magic to combat or stealth or hunting either. The Path of the Mulching Fanlesiten should be proof of that. Which brings me, incidentally, to my next point. The IslandThere are a few (very few, to be honest) landmarks on the island. This is intentional: it is easier to add them during this process if there aren't very many. The inhabitants of the island are als very loosely defined. Some of the more notables inhabitants (sandworms, jackalopes, pegasi, etc.) have been somewhat detailed, but there are creatures (like the fanlesiten) that are not dangerous or large or translated from existing myth, but still exist on the island and make up an important part of the Hunter's dynamic environment.Keeping with the fanlesiten example: do young Hunters sometimes get them as pets? Do older Hunters have competitions to see who can train the best singers? Are they sometimes seen as pests, leeching salt needed for preserving food?We don't know, and we don't know because no one's said so yet. So I want you to be inventive and come up with this stuff.LanguageGranted, you'll want to name your creations. You'll probably want to ask me about naming them until I finish my Horjinic 101 class, but you might want to try your own hand at it. That's fine, go for it. Just use the existing words to your advantage, and when a word doesn't exist, make it up.I'd appreciate if you keep with the standard naming conventions I've set up so far. That is, names of paths of magic should be "Path of the {adjective} {noun}". Components for spells should make sense (and hopefully be related to the list of "common magical component uses" I've created). Creature names should be based off of their most notable feature.Beyond that...well, the sky's the limit. And even that is debatable: there's still spirits in space, you know.
