Command Structure (revisited)
MoMA (Minister of Military Affairs): The head of the military, answerable only to the Kaiser himself.admiral (Army term is general): One admiral is assigned for each branch of the military, which means currently there are three. They deal with the smaller details of the operations that come down from the minister. Admirals are considered full time members of the MoMA, as are hunters.hunter: Special Operations rank. A Hunter doesn't command a team, doesn't follow the chain of command, and a hunter cannot command a lower rank. It is higher simply so that agents can retain autonomy. The exception being that hunters are also used as Drill Seargents for Cadets both in boot camp and in the academies. Normaly all units are considered militia, so it is left up to the duchal governments to train them. Hunter's are there to make sure that they are kept up to standard.commander: Commander's are the head of a single unit in the Shirerithian military. In the army, they are the head of a "company" (1st company of Kildare, 2nd company of Amity and Mirioth), often nicknamed for their cheif trait (Wolf Company, Loki Company, Russell Company, etc). In the navy, they head a single group of naval ships (usually around 5) called a fleet (1st fleet of Brookshire, 3rd fleet of Yardistan, etc), and in the air force a commander controls a single squadron of aircraft (usually 25). A naval fleet can also be nicknamed, as can an airforce fleet. The official titles are only named after duchies and Baronies, and are allways considered militia until activated for emergencies or war.captain: A captain controls part of the unit under a commander, easing the burden of command, and making sure the smaller issues get taken care of.soldier: You're standard grunt, responsible for everything from fighting to refueling aircraft to cooking to flying the aircraft.cadet: Cadets are new recruits, raw, and usually idealistic, who have not yet graduated boot camp yet.Notes: 1- Shirerothian military ideas like officers and Conscripts are decided by the individual duchy as of this time. 2- Shirerothian military is based heavily on fuedalism, and loyalty to the person directly above you. A most unusual system by 'modern' standards, but this system has been in practice since Shireroth was formed, and continues to protect the Republic with ho There are no flowers, no not this time. Re: Command Structure (revisited)
And how does one become a captain? In normal (ie real-life) military establishments, there is the distinction between officers and normal soldiers. A soldier can become an officer, but it's much easier for them to go into officer college or whathaveyou first. For instance, a friend of mine retained for a while the romantic notion that he'd become a "grunt" and then would become an officer later on, having a better idea of what they experience. This is all very well in a Tom Clancy novel, but it doesn't really work out when you consider the concept of upstartism and so forth. Also, in such a feudal society as Shireroth, the class distinction would certainly extend to the military. One General or another might make a proclamation about nobles' sons not being given any more preference than others for officer level, but he or she would be quickly removed, I think. So to properly represent the society that Shireroth has become, I think we should have two seperate sections of the army, the officer and soldier sections, like any other army. This whole "rite of passage" malarkey for progressing from cadet to private is slightly ridiculous. In real armies, there is such a thing as promotion. Malarky? It's MALARKY that you would say malarky. :PAs for the whole Officer status, the only "officer" status are possibly for the hunters and the admirals because those are the only "full time" rankings, the rest of them are militia until they're activated and needed for war. I was thinking about leaving that whole debate for the individual duchies to set policy for, but if enough people complain i'll just set it myself. There are no flowers, no not this time. Does Shireroth not have a standing military, then? Wil Nider to the HyperboreansEoin to the restZirandorthel to the ages

Not really. It's almost exclusively militia until they're activated. But they do have to act within MoMA guidelines even when they aren't activated, hence why the Hunters are given top status, so they can make sure. One of SHINE's less glamorous duties. I totally agree about the seperation between officers and "soldiers"(Non-coms, or NCO's). There should be a distinction, and I agree, since out country is a fuedal system, it should depend on whether or not you're nobility. While it's possible for NCO's to advance and recieve their commissions, its rare, and difficult.

Perhaps ONLY a noble can be an officer, or someone sponsored by a noble? I was hoping to avoid the whole officer aspect, and I still might, but if enough people want it i'll cave. There are no flowers, no not this time. There will be no angels gracing the lines, just these stark words I find.

Re: Command Structure (revisited)
Since no one cares, I win. :P*ahem*RANT TIME!Ok, after reviewing this, i've decided to revise this. You must understand that, when dealing with the more fictitious elements of a micronational army, that they still must make sense when dealing with the 'real' aspects of a micronational army, aka, who actually cares enough to consider themselves a soldier. One, We don't have enough real people to have someone simply dedicate themsleves to the military (having a soldier who is also a noble who is also the praetor is slightly unrealistic as well...). Two, we don't have a 'real' standing army, so why should we pretend to have fictitious hordes at our command? We haven't had a real war with another micronation in years thanks to the innovations of EZboard, and the general good luck and wits of our leaders. So to have no standing official army, and only militias make sense, so you guys don't have to care all the time and waste your time on boring stuff you don't care about. Three, i've consistantly been the only person to actually be interested in trying to make it even seem like we have a military at all, and how to try and make it work. I don't mind, I really don't, but I will be the first to admit I don't know everything there is to know about military life. I have gaping holes in my knowledge.I have no idea where this rant was going, but it feels good to get it off my chest. Now, are there any other issues besides the officer issue to deal with? Hm...*is crazy* There are no flowers, no not this time. There will be no angels gracing the lines, just these stark words I find.

Re: Command Structure (revisited)
Perhaps we could collect all the information on the various militias, and make a ranking list of the fictitious officers?

edits on the top thread:1) dealt with the officer issue. No more complaints. Not that anyone cares anymore it seems. 2) I've also edited out the part about seeing combat before becoming a full soldier.3) I will be working on a more streamlined version of this. Expect it when you see it. There are no flowers, no not this time. There will be no angels gracing the lines, just these stark words I find.
