I look forward to that law passing and failing pretty miserably. The Ministry of Immigration will not be crippled because a few people have some bad ideas. But I will "do my best" to uphold it when it passes and hopefully get it overturned by Kaiser/ess decree at some point. What do you have against it? I thought you said it was a good law, just required you to do more work, not really since you could hire people. E. Metzler (UEC)Duke of Brookshire"Never use a BOO/\/\ist as a diplomat" -- GSClicky Clicky..., Tiss for your own good ya know.

No, I think it is a really bad law... and not just because it requires me to do more work. I maintain that the territories of Shireroth, while having different histories and backgrounds, are very very similar. Especially in the eyes of a newbie that does not care too much about backgrounds. Will they care if this territory was part of the UAS or that one was gotten during Tymaria? Absolutely not! UAS and Tymaria are just names that mean nothing to a new person. It is all the same to them! Most likely they will pick a territory based on ideaology gleaned from the descriptions.Which leads to the next problem. The whole forced "duke buddy system" thing is laughable. These people should be allowed to make their own friends. We do not need to pair people up with someone that was more-or-less randomly given to them. And what about established micronationalists that know about the hobby or even Shireroth? The law says they have to go through this nonsense too.The worst thing about this is that you are more then willing to pass these ridiculous restrictions upon someone that does not want to deal with them and dislikes the whole idea. Do you honestly think the MiniImNat is lacking? After what it has pulled off in a few weeks?Hire people? To do what? Act as overglorified tour guides. Ridiculous! I would be ashamed to be having the ministry do that kind of thing. I already have one person that is handling the "naturalization" part of the ministry already, and he is goind a pretty good job. Besides, we cannot get a Minister of Information. I think that is a more important job to fill then "official Shirerothian greeter."You want to naturalize these new citizens? Give them Scott's history. They can read it if they want to, or ignore it if they want that. Let them partisipate in Shireroth for a bit. They will pick it up. Just look at what our not-quite-Shirerothian friends are doing in Straylight and Brookshire. They did not need some funky program. The whole thing is ridiculous. We should let these poor people naturalize themselves, choose their own friends, and have a good time. All this official bueocractic nonsense will only frusterate them... and will certainly frusterate me.--end rant-- Harvey SteffkeJadie's Lesser HalfSaves the worldProud bearer of the Shirerothian Silver Sword Award and Imperial Star

The problem with his point is that, that is how things have been done for ages, and is not a good system. We should try to get rid of the "Here read this" style of naturalization. And it's not a forced buddy system.. whatever you called it... It simply helps promote friendship and loyalty. E. and also, the citizens that didn't get the hang of it generally left because of that fact. I have introduced about five people to Shireroth, and a couple of them simply looked at it and laughed, and the others were active for a matter of days, but then they had no clue what was going on so they left immediately without even saying anything. Raised by a family of Griffins in the forests of Llanowar, this young mage is rumored to be the sole male born of the Serra tribe.

So, what is your point? Let us face it: micronations are not for everyone. Some people are going to laugh and never join. Some people will join under pressure but not like it. The fact is that a naturalization system will not help either of those types. Only people that want to be naturalized will be. If they think it is stupid or have no clue what is going on, then recomending a home and finding a friend will do nothing. They have to want to be naturalized. I maintain that anyone that wants to be naturalzed can do a better job themselves then the state can. I tihnk his point was that people who could petentially have liked micronations didn't stay because they didn't know what was what and left out of confusion.. or such. If they had known... They would have stayed. Harvey, I think you forget what it's like to be a newbee... Something has to grab your attention ussually.. else you simply join... get bored and leave cause you didn't know what was going on, nor what you could do... E. Hah! I have been in the hobby for years and I still rarely know what is going on around here! Perhaps someone should write up a list of jobs and what they are expected to do and we could show that to newbies? That would probably clue them in a lot better then this duchy search program.A notice to the ministry and Shireroth in general: If this law passes, I will resign my job. That is not a threat. I do not do this bitterly or out of anger. I simply refuse to have anything to do with this law and believe the Imperial Republic could be better served by someone that is willing to follow it.

I signed up for the MiniImNat position under certain guidelines of what I was to do. Now people want to change those guidelines. That is not what I signed up to do and not what I will do willingly. So rather then have either a lawbreaking or an unwilling Minister of Immigration, someone else should take the job.It makes sense, does it not? Well I had a friend who looked at Shireroth recently, and she came up with the question of 'what would I do if I joined' which really stumpted me, what do you do in a hobby about nothing?
