Freedom To Post Act

Post by Scott Alexander »

Resolved, that as Shireroth has few enemies and is at a low threat level right now, and as our Gold status gives us the ability to restore anyway, and as the restrictions are annoying and problematic, THAT all micronationalists who have not been convicted of a crime in Shireroth or deemed unusually threatening to state security will be allowed to make an unlimited number of posts. Any DEFCON status declaration by the military above the lowest level will invalidate this act.Since this may not be a popular act, I want to explain my rationale. There's probably very little as annoying to a prospective citizen or a foreign diplomat or someone who just wants to come chat as to find they can't post more than a few times a day. The system can harm citizens who slip through the cracks, like Eoin recently, and can limit friendly foreigners who come to Shireroth and want to participate in national life, such as David (in times past, people like Stjepan and Harvey would have been good examples of this category too). While there certainly are possible threats, like Anarchy21's attack on us earlier this year, these are almost nonexistant in today's intermicronational climate in which Anarchy21 has been caught and broken up and even Politika mostly keeps to itself. If this situation ever changes, all we need is for the Kaiser to suspend this act or the military to declare a DEFCON level, which they probably will anyway.Shireroth has survived and prospered for 3 years without posting restrictions. The only major loss we have undergone, that of Goldshire and the Immigration department back during the Phillip Marshall incident, would not have been prevented by these restrictions anyway. These cause problems, lower our activity, and are not very useful. As if to punctuate my point, Philip Locke (a citizen) just IMed me asking why he had posting restrictions. So SUPPORT THIS ACT!Almost forgot. Hyperborea votes aye. Since everything is but an apparition, having nothing to do with good or bad, acceptance or rejection, one may well burst out in laughter. - Longchenpa

I take no offense at this act... in fact, Kildare votes AYE (4)It was a spur of the moment kinda thing... I don't remember the exact spark of it, but there was one, and I ran the Idea through the Kaiseress, who approved. I think the main problem with it was that I generalized that Citizens have custom titles (since the Immigration records were out of date) and so I just went through and gave anyone with custom titles (excepting banned and hostile outsiders) the unlimited posting status. When I get back to my home comp, I'll look up my AIM logs and see if I can figure out why the hell I did all this in the first place...But hey - aren't you glad Marlboro wasn't able to post more than those five times he did? No worries, it was a good idea, just didn't work out. Since everything is but an apparition, having nothing to do with good or bad, acceptance or rejection, one may well burst out in laughter. - Longchenpa

Kitanus Fields votes AYE (2).The Ministry of Information should be used to learn things about people for later use, not restrict information and posting.
