Regarding the Andelarion Case.
Observing the recent concerns expressed in the Landsraad over the Dual Citizenship Restriction bill, and being loathe to break my predecessors' tradition of staying out of the Landsraad where comments are concerned, the matter must be brought before my court.I have questions that I feel need answers before I agree to or decide upon anything:1) Will Ric be leaving Shireroth, or merely stepping down as Baron of Elwynn due to having too many citizenships?2) If the former, will Elwynn have enough citizens to continue its present existence as a Barony?3) If the latter, what other candidates are there for Baronial status?I am reluctant to leave a fiefdom without a ruler until one is "found", ie. someone is recruited into Elwynn for the sake of the ruler not being Ardashir. It seems slightly unfair that one of most active leaders Elwynn ever had is being restricted from leadership because of begrudgery. It is the Baron's right to introduce whatever culture they see fit to their Barony. The Duke at the time, being either myself or Scott Alexander, had no objection to it. Does the present Duke of Brookshire have an objection to it? If not, I see no reasoning behind prohibiting Ardashir from taking over as Baron. If I hear mumblings about status quos and so forth, need I remind you that Ardashir is the status quo personified, being as he is immortal, evil and insane, and thus probably the originator of said quo?So yes, speak to your Kaiser, air your concerns. While this case is being heard, I would recommend, though it is not strictly necessary, that the DCR bill is delayed for three days or so.
Re: Regarding the Andelarion Case.
My Lord,Quote:1) Will Ric be leaving Shireroth, or merely stepping down as Baron of Elwynn due to having too many citizenships? If the Dual Citizenship law is passed then I will have to resign from being a baron. I will not leave Shireroth, and I most definitely will not leave Elwynn, my so far only residence in Shireroth. Elwynn is my home, and I'll stay there.I understand that people may find me disloyal for having "so many" citizenships. Besides Shireroth I am only a citizen of Babkha and Cranda. I assure you, I am not disloyal. The former Kaiser, Alejian, knows that I as ombudsman performed my tasks well, despite the facts that most of the complaints I received from citizens were anti-Babkhan and anti-GC. Quote:3) If the latter, what other candidates are there for Baronial status? There are, as far as I know, two more citizens of Elwynn. Harald and Ardashir. If I am no longer the baron, then Ardashir will be that. I think he'll be more active than Harald. He also has an insight to the Elwynnese culture. Harald has too many citizenships, I think. I am not very sure about it though.I am not really fond of the idea of recruiting somebody just for the sake of him becoming a baron. Ardashir knows Elwynn, and if I'm not the baron, he shall be the one.The only negative aspect with Ardashir's baron status would in my opinion be the relations with other Shirerithian subdivisions. But division makes fun, doesn't it? Richard LyonYansha Elaer Kyon gef ShanPernem kahn gef kuymal per varga stiPernem kahn gef varga per kuymal stiEdited by: RicLyon at: 9/23/05 12:02

Re: Regarding the Andelarion Case.
If Ardashir becomes baron again, bad things will happen. Period. I like the idea of a stepped citizenship restriction; but if Ric has to step down because of it I will rescind my vote and do whatever it takes to keep Ardashir from becoming Baron. There are no flowers, no not this time. There will be no angels gracing the lines, just these stark words I find.

Quote:we would be kicking out someone who violates the spirit of the law but whom we all know is basically loyal, in favor of the person who is the head of state of our biggest rival.Scott I'm flattered by your continued misreading of the constitutional set up of the Grand Commonwealth but I am not the head of state of Shireroth's biggest rival. Tahmaseb is the Shahan-Ri and Rakesh is the Taoiseach, and they tower above me in the 'satanic' hierarchy. Not that one ever doubts your veracity in all things but there are still the occasional points that need correcting. Now as the bill in question in the Landsraad is clearly going to be now scuppered and buggered about with to ensure that I do not become Baron of Elwynn please indulge me as I elaborate on my plans for the Barony were I to attain that throne:1) Move the capital back to Glenfiddich2) Restore the Order of the Dead Stag3) Retrocede all civil administrative powers of the Baron back to Ric who would be appointed as Castellan.Ric can verify that the discussion of point three has been ongoing since the possibility of him loosing the barony was first raised in Bill's legislation. As far as I am concerned Ric has been a cultured and competent force for good in Elwynn and I would not want one of the guarrantors of the cultural traditions of Elwynn to be removed. I am perfectly happy to serve as his sword arm in these trying times in regards to relations with Yardistan. As stated above, in the rapidly diminishing likelihood of me becoming Baron, I would return to Ric the powers which he has exercised so nobly and effectively and invite him to continue with multi-cultural Elwynn much as before. My role would be to guard and elevate the power of Elwynn so that the benefits of Ric's good governance would only spread and be an inspiration for all.
Re: Regarding the Andelarion Case.
What Ardy says is true. He and I did have those kind of discussions on how we could share power in Elwynn and make sure that Elwynn progresses. I trust Ardashir in what he says (well mostly ) and I don't think Ardy would do anything to destroy anything about Elwynn's legacy. Moving the capital - fine. That's no big deal. I tend to keep myself in Cape Farewell anyway. The Order of the Dead Stag? It's just something funny. That's not a big deal either.I can understand aspects of the opposition against Ardashir, but I fail to see the whole picture... I shouldn't really expand on this bit. Don't want to start a real division or anything. Richard LyonYansha Elaer Kyon gef ShanPernem kahn gef kuymal per varga stiPernem kahn gef varga per kuymal sti

Re: Regarding the Andelarion Case.
Ardashir will become Baron if Ric leaves? Does anyone see something wrong with that?On the pretext of a law that will ensure Shirerithian nobles are loyal to Shireroth first and foremost, we would be kicking out someone who violates the spirit of the law but whom we all know is basically loyal, in favor of the person who is the head of state of our biggest rival.I think the easiest way to solve this would be to grant Ric an exemption, or better yet just stick a grandfather clause into the act as a whole (and while we're grandfathering, I'd rather just make a law that says EVERYONE must have single citizenship and grandfathering in current duals). But if people refuse that, I would support Kaiserial or Ducal intervention against Ardashir becoming a Baron. Edited by: Scott of Hyperborea at: 9/23/05 14:35

No offense to Ardashir, but I would rather demote Elwynn to a county than have it move under the direct control of a head of state of a rival country. Viatax Sitadi Axdivijink RegigoraaukEdited by: Fax Celestis at: 9/23/05 15:09

Ardashir, need I remind you that you are Shah of Babkha? The Grand Commonwealth is too Rakesh-y at the moment to be a good boogeyman; Babkha still serves that job admirably.

For pete's sakes just give Ric an exemption, the last thing we need is ANOTHER Babkhan in power here :/

Re: Regarding the Andelarion Case.
It's not a matter of exception. If Ric won't emmigrate from one of the two nations he's in, (preferably Babkha) he'll have to step down and let Elwynn become a County again. Simple as that.I know Ric is nice and all, but that doesn't stop the fact that he is a Babkhan. But Babkhan's aren't nice, and Ric is nice. He can't be a real Babkhan. They call it a signature, but no one ever signs their posts...
Re: Regarding the Andelarion Case.
I've written an amended version of the bill with a grandfather clause that will, I think, leave Ric exempted. Once the current version fails, I will gladly put the new one up for consideration.

Re: Regarding the Andelarion Case.
That is, I feel, the best solution. This issue was raised by Landsraad activities, it should be resolved likewise. If we intend to keep the Landsraad as a legislative body, its difficulties cannot be fixed by the Kaiser every time they arrive.Although I still reserve the right to veto at will
